it's not official yet, but the Bonnies are tantalizingly close to clinching a birth in the A-10 tournament! this will be a modest, yet monumental achievement in a way.

We;ll have to wait until, at least, Sunday to drink it. GW outlasted Charlotte 92-88 in OT.

That's not even close to true, either. GW is 2 games behind us with 3 to play. We have 2 left. We're 5-9, they're 3-10. Even IF we win Sunday, we still need GW to lose. The only way we control our trip to AC is IF we win BOTH our last two games, then it doesn't matter what the hell GW does. If we lose both our final games, and GW wins two of three, guess who's on the outside looking in? US.
Obviously Charlotte could falter down the stretch as well, and Charlotte and Fordham could be staying home, but right now lets assume that GW and Fordham aren't going to AC, which I think most are. If we're worried about GW, then our magic number is 2 - any combination of GW losses and Bona wins totaling 2 send the Bonnies to AC. We're not in the clear yet guys.

The Bonaventure Bond is arguably tighter than at most schools. There's no med school, no research facility, no nearby big city to escape to. The glue that binds students through frigid winters is equal parts academic, basketball and beer. That's why a horde of alumni stay in touch long after their paths diverge. |

Lazer is right that the Bonnies aren't done yet. Unfortunately, losing the last two would give GW and Charlotte the tiebreaker advantage, that is, if GW wins 2 of 3.
An even crazier scenario would be GW winning out, the Bonnies losing their last two and UMass losing the rest of their games. SBU would sneak in as the #12 seed by virtue of their win over the Minutemen.

lazer: I just looked at the current standings and you are right on. One thing though. If the Bonnies tie GW, it is not a lock that GW goes to AC. Remember that in the Big 12 Football Championship, the Big 12 voted to send Oklahoma to their championship game because OU had a higher RPI than Texas. Texas had beaten OU and both teams finished the season tied. Should GW and the Bonnies end up tied, the A-10 may send the Bonnies to AC, if the Bonnies end up with a higher RPI than GW. Chances are though, that if the Bonnies and GW end up tied, then GW would probably have the higher RPI. And then again, would the A-10 go the same route as the Big 12 did? The Big 12 took a lot of grief for doing it. We'll know soon.

Um OU had a higher BCS ranking, not RPI and that was in the situation of a three way tie, I will stop typing and really hope that was a sarcastic post....anyways, we tie with GW in A-10 record GW goes we stay home, its first tie breake in A-10 rule book.

True we're not in the clear, but I don't know how GW can possibly win two more. At Richmond, at UMass, and vs. Temple? Yeah, anything can happen, and maybe they can win one of two on the road, but I highly doubt it. They haven't won an A-10 road game all year. Even if they do, they would have to play great at home against Temple to have a chance. And that's assuming we don't win any. Champagne is definitely on ice at my place.

This is much more complicated. I did not think about UMass losing its last three, or even Charlotte staying home. Schmidt said in the post game show with Gary tht the team did not want to back into AC. Hope his statement translates into a huge effort at St. Joe's.

I wrote it a couple of days ago, and I'll write it again. The GW team I saw in DC over the weekend could easily win 2 of these games. I was hoping they would revert back to form after the Bona game but they hung in tough last night.
I'm not saying they'll win two, but they've got a better shot than you think. If they had a coach, they could have been in the top half of the conference.

Well, they're actually fighting for the last three spots. Only one of those teams won't make it to Atlantic City.

I see GW not making it, solely because they'll be on the road against UMass and at home against a Temple team that will be vying for a top-4 seed in the conference tourny. I believe that we absolutely need to beat Charlotte just to be sure, but we seem to be in a decent position. Come on Bonas, don't let us down!

The Bonnies will have a one game (or tie breaker) advantage over the team that loses the GW @ UMass game with just one game remaining for both teams. The loser would have to pull off a big upset in their last game. Most likely loser of GW @ UMass is out. Bonnies are in if they beat Charlotte and probably in even if they lose.
Have to admit someone better add some ice to the Champagne, because things are much warmer (closer) than last week.

Actually I think GW has the advantage over UMass. GW has won 3 of its last 4 games, while UMass accomplished the exact opposite losing 3 of its last 4. GW even has the advantage with its last opponent being Temple who just had the NCAA bubble burst by losing 2 straight games.
UMass has to play a red hot Rhode Island team that has won 9 of its last 10 games and probably has moved themselves on the NCAA bubble. Also just eleven days ago UMass lost at home to Rhode Island 70-59. Last game they play at Rhode Island. Clear advantage for GW, but honestly who knows. I agree Bonnies just need to beat Charlotte ,so we do not have to worry about it.
