From the Buffalo News:

According to two sources familiar with the situation, the fight stemmed from a Friday night incident at the Rathskeller bar on the St. Bonaventure campus. The sources said several visitors from the junior college were ordered to leave the Rathskeller after a disagreement between basketball players from the two schools.

The sources said a group of Jamestown players and friends drove to St. Bonaventure early Sunday morning, pulled up outside some townhouses where students lived and challenged members of the St. Bonaventure team to a fight.

Sure sounds like self-defense to me. Sounds pre-meditated on the part of the JCC kids.

So, they get kicked out of the Rathskellar on Friday, a place they shouldn't be anyway because they are not 21; then the next night they get a gang toggether and come looking for a fight.

Can hardly wait for thr firewroks this weekend - how many are they going to bring next time.

Note to SBU players: DO NOT retaliate if they do show up again - have campus security and state police on speed-dial, and CALL THEM !

Did the JCC players break into the townhouses? Unless they did then you cannot argue self-defense. They were not forced in any way to come out of their townhouses and agree to fight. The SBU players showed very little restraint and obviously very little confidence if they felt the need to scan their apartments for weapons they could use. We need to start recruiting players with self-respect and dignity, and shy away from players who would resort to methods similar to that of inner-city gang members in a situation like this.

Back 9, I pray you aren't a lawyer based on your comments regarding what you think is the law. Just as people are stating that we should wait for the facts to come out, I think we should leave the legal possibilities to those who actually know the law and not some internet wanna-be laywer with no clue what he's talking about fueling the rumor mill even more.

The Rathskellar was opend spring of my Freshman year (of course you had to be 18 then) but you had to show ID at the bottom of the stairs just to get into the place the entire time I was at Bona's. I don't remember non students, faculty or staff being admitted unless they were a guest of someone from campus. I always thought it was a private premise not a public license. Is that not the case anymore?

In the early 2000's you needed your Student ID to get in unless you were a guest of someone from campus. I'm guessing they came with someone from campus. Also, you could be held accountable for that person(s) actions since they were your guest.

It was the same when I was there. Had to use your student identification. Unless its been changed and I don't know why they would, these JCC clowns had to come with someone.

I worked there when I was a student, there is usually someone at the door on weekend nights but they weren't necessarily always manning it. And yes, if you were a guest you needed a student with you.

I walked in as an alumni, with no form of ID, before the first game of the season this year. Came with some non-alumni friends and we had no problem getting it. It isn't exactly Fort Knox.

I mean...who cares, really, what the rules to get in are? It's the Rathskellar - an on campus bar for Bona's students that Bona's students don't even use. Why the hell would JCC kids creep to a Bona's on-campus bar. Let em go AJ's or Youngers.

Sad but true, at least in my day (98-03). I frequented the Skeller more than most, but one regret I have looking back was not taking advantage more of the Skeller with it's cheap drinks, free pool, free darts, free shuffleboard, quiz game thing, crappy food, and if you were sneaky, access to the bowels of the Hickey dining hall where you could steal ice cream.

Aloha!

things are too quiet, IMO. No question something happened and it involved the hoops team.

The cover up is worse than the crime as Richard Nixon and Martha Stewart would say
