The next ten days will be crucial. We need, critically, big man backup depth. Hopefully we can get that depth either through a transfer, or by frosh.
You can't ask Simmons to fill that role, he is a strong 4, but I do not want him banging around with the 6/10 sluggers in this conference, that is not his job, and while very tough, he would be out of position with that type of mission.
Keep your seatbelts fastened and enjoy the ride...........yeeha!!!

I note that there also has been no news about a contract extension for Schmidt. Maybe he's too busy to stop by to sign it?

Here's a scenario for you: Coach has actually signed some recruits but is keeping it (and asking them to keep it) under wraps until he thinks it is the right time to announce. Whataya think?

Sbu79- what would the strategy behind that be?

I don't know, and I don't know how you get 18-19 year olds to keep their mouths shut either. I was just trying to be optimistic. ;)

Or, much like last season with Kloof, there are players that need to be cleared academically or by the NCAA before any announcements can be made.

I once heard a story about a school that got into trouble for cutting corners and signing a kid with welding certificate. You can never be too cautious these days.

Or it could be that he held onto scholarships until the spring and is scrambling to find guys with good credentials. signing guys and keeping it under wraps is not a strategy. You would announce signings so other recruits know the quality of players you are bringing in.

Exactly right. The fact that we have three open scholarships at this point is extremely concerning. The fact that this seems to be an annual event is even more concerning.

The fact that coach has a knack for bringing in enough talent to win the A-10 championship is NOT concerning...lighten up until it's over boys

Tom, I'm not sure if you're aware, but quality recruits were forcing their way into Schmidt's office this fall trying to play for a team that hadn't won more than 15 games in a decade.

No excuses for delay, Bonas is an easy sell.

Do the names Carter or Millinghaus ring a bell? I know you both are better coaches than Schmidt, but giving away scholarships to kids in the Fall does not always work out. In fact, I would argue that kids that commit in the Spring or Summer have a better chance of actually showing up on campus in the Fall.

We had three scholarships at this point last Spring and ended up with Kloof, Gathers and N'doye. All of those guys made significant contributions to the tourney run. Also, all three scored more points for the Bonnies than recent Fall signees, Carter and Millinghaus.

These Debbie Downer/Chicken Little routines are getting old.
