Since beating UALR at the RC, their PG Bozeman is still the primary scorer averaging almost double anyone else & still taking the bulk of their shots. His 15ppg comes off of great shooting where 75% of his points come from beyond the arc & the stripe. Over the past 5 games he is hitting on 56% of his treys. When not knocking down the three-ball he lives on the line where he misses few (83% FTs). One of the keys to our win last time out was stopping him COLD. We held him to just 6 points, all from the stripe. He went 0-8 from the field. I don’t expect anywhere near that level of success stopping him again BUT if the impossible happens a second time, it should be a nice road win.
Bozeman teams up with Mouzy (46% treys over last 8 games) to make ALRU a deadly trey shooting team which, as a team, hits 40% of its treys compared to 43% FGs. As we saw they are not big & rebounding is not their strength. We held a narrow edge of 3 more boards last game.
They go deeper on the bench than anyone else we have played. 12 players will be shuttled on & off the floor. Last time 3 players fouled out as a result of their aggressive play on Andrew. Jackson played only 18 mins & Williams only 16 mins before they got the hook. Kibi got his 5th later in the game. In spite of their strategy to foul Andrew, he dropped 25 pts & got to the line to make 10-11 free throws. Wonder if they will play more like Marshall this time? Mendoza played very well against us scoring 21 pts on 5-10 shooting & 10-11 from the line. I’m sure he will be our secondary defensive focus after Bozeman.
Last time out, the two big factors in our win was stopping Bozeman AND making 30-37 FTs. We outscored them from the stripe by 13 points. Both teams scored 22 baskets. They may re-appraise their aggressiveness on defense & fouling of Andrew.
That game may have been the only game all year that our bench outscored our opponent 9-6. It was possibly Matt’s best game, playing 15 mins & scoring 7 pts with 2 assists & just 1 TO. I think he will get mins early & hopefully he will respond well as he did in the first meeting. Sam may see time as well.
We all know how thin our bench is (so do our opponents) but when you look at the #s it’s almost invisible. The Bonnies are averaging 71.2 ppg. Our 5 starters are responsible for an incredible 67.4 of those points. Do the math. The rest of the team contributes a total of 3.8 ppg.
Would love to see Matt further develop in this one & Sam as well. Also hoping that some of the rust has worn off Marquise after having to sit & watch after just 14 mins of play on Sunday. More legs will be needed to match the hockey line changes we will see. Go Bonnies!

UALR Will be out for some payback - Bonnies win with Davenport and Conger slashing and gashing insde with Ogo making the KEY 3 pointer.
Now on to Wright & DeHass. Nice kids I wish them well. With the other two kids coming in next year and a Possible gun slinger still waiting for an offer I see them only coming off the bench if that. DeHass looked lost against Siena and Wright, with a lucky basket at the end of the Marshall, is no A10 PG. Can't see DeHass making it back next year as for Wright - he better learn have to dribble and get rid of the ball out of the trap. The Marshall guards just ate him up.
The Marshall game really pointed out this teams weaknesses.
GO BONNIES

However, for most college freshman, their first season is more about learning the system than lighting it up. Wright made a couple freshman mistakes against Marshall dribbling into the trap, but he also had two key steals. He has the second best assist to turnover ratio behind Jake and is third on the team with 10 steals. I think he has tremendous upside and will eventually find his offense. The "lucky" shot he made against Marshall was one heck of an offensive move.

They are very young and will improve a great deal between now and a year from now. Just like Conger improved and DaQuan improved between junior and senior year, these kids will too. I am not saying they are going to be three year starters, but they will get better. At the end of next season, we can have a more clear picture of just what they are, or aren't going to be at Bonaventure.

When you scan our opponents and there top players career stats on espn.com .... I would guess that 80% have careers that build:
frosh - almost nothing soph - a contribution junior - a role player either in rotation or as a starter senior - to starter/key contributor
20% are the exceptions like Andrew or the transfer out busts .....
Coach seems to be developing our core players but also Davenport, Congers and Cook are getting major minutes due to the short bench and lack of alternatives.
Coach made an interesting statement before the VaTech game... none of our players where recruited by VaTech .... his point was this game was a measuring stick for guys to compare there games/development.
Did Marshall, OhioU, Cleve State, StJohns and VaTech recruit and/or offer to any of our current roster? I think we had quite a few of there guys on our radar ... Could we add Siena as well?
Conclusions: - as the program progress this year and next year it should help our visibility and recruiting.
- the staff is good at finding and developing players that are being overlooked by programs that are at a level we want to be associated with.
- too early to judge our frosh and the 2-soph big men and to an extent Simmons, but they have a responsibility to development and improve there games.
Lastly, in Andrew's senior year:
- will we exploit the opportunity with a pre-season tour abroad? Canada, Europe .... - will we participate in some of the early season and/or xmas tournaments? Alaska, Maui, 24-hour ESPN day .... - schedule more high profile OCC games?

Also have to consider that the 3-guys who have developed quite nicely are the 3-guys who have been mentioned as having the strongest work ethic in the preseason ..... putting in countless hours before and after formal practices ..... working on there weakness to make them strengths ..
Hopefully the younger core observes what it takes ....
but also other team members had opportunities to expand and improve there games: Ogo with the UK national team, Jake & AN at the big mans camp.
Sam plays wit the Dutch national team program and Wright probably is in the Canadian National Team program so that should help .... hindsight being 20/20 ... its a shame that Rosie wasn't redshirted last year ... if he was our opinion would probably be more hopeful.

mangham....That's one of the keys to the win. Last time our guards played Bozeman better that any team has all season. It was incredible that he got so few shots (he's a shooting machine) & never made a basket. As I indicated, I certainly don't anticipate a repeat of that but we MAY be inside his head with the blanket we applied to his offensive game at the RC.

insideualr.....Thanks for the link. One commenter felt Bona would NOT enjoy the same FT disparity (we did at the RC) tonight as visitors. Well, it depends on how UALR defends. If they repeat looking to use bodies banging on Andrew & are down late we should once again get to the line a lot. However, they may change that strategy of focusing on Andrew if they looked at the video of the Marshall game & liked what they saw.

I did enjoy reading some of their posters' comments: one said they need a big like ANDREW and went on to say they also realize that ANDREW does possess "special skills" and were speculating how SBU would do in their conference and the general thought was that the BONNIES would easily be one of the top teams, and finally, one poster lamented:"is everyone on that team left handed?"
