Yes he is killing us! AMERICAN EAST here we go...... Dayton has better recruits, nicer arena, better cheerleaders...etc......ITS BAD MAN. What's this American East that you speak of? I have heard of the America East Conference.

@99 - stop being an idiot. we have nothing in common with America East schools, unless we plan on becoming a large public research institution overnight. We also have nothing in common with them athletically considering on an off year we'd still be one of (if not THE) best teams in their conference.

@99: What's your connection to SBU? You seem to be bearing some sort of grudge against the school, the team, Olean etc. Did you flunk out or experience some other type of rejection by SBU? Are you here as a counterintelligence agent for a competitor? The bandwagon is for people who have their eyes open about the D-1 basketball challenges facing a tiny instutution in the Enchanted Mountains, but don't let it deter them. As Daniel Webster said of Dartmouth: "It is, Sir, as I have said, a small College, and yet, there are those who love it." In other words, if you don't share those sentiments, what are you doing here?

So at the last minute Dayton pulls their season out of the toilet, and now this yahoo from the Dayton Daily News thinks the sky's the limit?
"Miller knows the Flyers have their destiny in their hands. A victory at GW would conclude a rousing finishing stretch and not only assure them of a trip to Brooklyn, but put them in position to make a push for a postseason berth."

wgt: You hoped Bonas would win where they never won before. Didn't J. R. Bremer light up Dayton on their floor the year he was given the green light to shoot by Van Breda Koff? And the Bonnies won?

I am a fan.
No I did not flunk out of St. Bonaventure U. I wish we got more respect academically.... People I know just do not give it much respect.
I want the team to do well, but it very frustrating watching these guys....
Simmons should be playing more than Youssou Ndoye.... I do not think Ndoye is good.... He is big, but has no skills. Honestly I would take his scholarship away and look for a better big guy....
I would like to see Jean Yves Toupane play... Let him go out there and try to do something...
There is no point talking about the GUYS who SCORE because they are gone next year....
We need to do better in our recruiting....
Jean Yves Toupane - no clue yet... he hit nice shots against NC State, but they never play him
Dion Wright - he is no more than a garbage picker.... he is nothing great.....
Last year recruits:
Youssou Ndoye - Again he wasn't bad last year with his limited time..... He didn't have to do much because of Andrew..... now he is getting exposed each game
J. Gathers - Good first step.... He can not shoot..... I was hoping he would have gotten better, but I don't see it...
You can write what you want that I am a "Hater", but I am a FAN.... I do not like sugarcoating stuff.....
Last night we washed Pierre (a player SBU should have gotten) kill us.... That is the problem....
Something needs to be done..... Yes were are a small program/ we need to develop a team, but I am watching other schools GROW while we are just treading water.... Do not mention last year, because we got Andrew because he hurt himself during that tournament, so he got ZERO big time exposure.....
Let me know what you think..

@99 - I can tell you're a fan, but you're too negative. Coming from me, that's saying something.
I like Ndoye. I can't tell how you don't see this kid's potential. He's been playing basketball for maybe 4 years. Did you see him against NC State? LaSalle? Hopefully this summer he gets better still, and next year he should not be trading off playing time with Simmons as Simmons should move to the 4.
I'm down on the recruiting as well. I can't understand how we're 0 for the fall - Fordham and Duquesne are having better success filling up their 'ships. But reading the OTH piece on the Conger signing got me thinking I'll wait for panic mode after spring signings. I'm not happy, or even inclined to give this staff any benefit, but we'll see.
Gathers can't shoot? D. Wright is a garbage picker? That's where you lose me, and others, and we tell you to F off. They're kids. Direct your anger at a staff that should have red-shirted Toupane, should be playing D. Wright MORE, and still can't teach fundamentals to the 12 best athletes on campus year in and year out. But get off the players unless they really deserve it. Unless you're background is as a pro scout or something... I'll not rely on oyu to quantify our guys' potential.

@99: I think your post is thoughtful and the points well taken. I have been reluctant to say anything negative about any specific player, first because they're our guys and second because these are student athletes. We can become frustrated very easily with a 14-14 record, but we have to remember that our strength of schedule is respectable and there has been tangible progress these past few years. Like Rumsfeld said, you go to war with the army you have, not the one you wish you had. The only way I can help is financially, and I plan to boost my support. I must say, however, I have gotten a lot more value out of following the Bonnies over the years than I've given back.

i'm sure some of the posters on this board remember a guy who played in the nba a long time ago who was nicknamed "the garbage man"...if you said bailey howell you're aging well!...so if dion is "no more than a garbage picker" i'd say keep it up dion because at least one guy made a pretty good living doing just that...
the thing one has to remember about our players from overseas...they haven't been playing hoops since the age of 5 or 10 like kids in the u.s....so when one looks at them as sophs or frosh in college, in terms of basketball age their playing experience is like a frosh or soph in high school...if one thinks of it that way and the tremendous upside they have, i wouldn't write off any of our international players just yet...
the only guess i can venture why jean toupane wasn't redshirted (and for the life of me it's the only reason that makes sense) was to have him available if youssou or marquis (or both in a worst case scenario) went down with injuries...if that had happened you would be looking at dion and jean sharing the 5 position...

Last year JYT did not play.......this would have been a 2nd consecutive year of not being an active player. As it turned out, he didn't get much of a chance to play, anyway. I feel that next year, with more bulk and a year of practice that he will be a key part of the team.

Good responses.... Just confused.
We need to land people.... Pretty much that is it....
We need to start having players that are YOUNG that are good.... not wait till they are Seniors....
I still can't believe Fordham is getting people. That gym is poor and they really only concern themselves with their academics.... nothing wrong with that, but it seems like that is the case....
We got lucky with Andrew.... We won't get lucky again.....
Did anyway watch the Iona game? How did they have that many good shooters... It's Iona.... How are they selling that place??? New Rochelle... near NYC, but the CAMPUS is not nice... Marist is 45 minutes north and is much better.....
Hopefully they win ONE game next week, because I am definitely going.

I'm frustrated with the recruiting as well, but Nicholson isn't here anymore and the team is on course for a .500 conference record in what may be the strongest year the Atlantic 10 has ever had.
Despite the lackluster recruiting, this team beat Temple on the road (tournament team), took LaSalle (tournament team) to overtime, played tough games against VCU and especially Xavier, beat St. Joe's (picked to win the conference) on the road. The players we have aren't the problem.
This isn't Kentucky or Duke, where freshmen come in and immediately play 30+ minutes because they have NBA talent. Mid-major teams are built around upperclassmen and experience. So we'll see how good the young players will be in the future, but the current seniors have been good enough for this program.
Unless you think the smallest school in the A-10 with the smallest budget should be competing for a championship every season, I really don't think it's fair to project your dissatisfaction with the staff's recruiting abilities onto the student-athletes who chose to come to Bona and are currently playing their socks off for the school.
EDIT: And do you really want Iona's players? (11-7 in the MAAC, good for 5th in a 10-team one-bid league)
