SIPO I'm sure it was a typo but it's Sheridan College in Sheridan, Wyoming - which is one of the most beautiful towns in one of the most beautiful areas in the US. Check out their website, www.sheridan.edu/site/sc/. Click on Alumni & Community for a great view of the location.

RECRUITING CONFIDENTIAL: Nigerian stars from Nazareth choose to play together at Manhattan By ZACH BRAZILLER Last Updated: 7:46 PM, July 19, 2013
Nazareth's Samson Usilo will join his good friend Samson Akilo at Manhattan. Samson Usilo was thrilled at every scholarship offer he received, but his joy doubled when Manhattan extended the same courtesy to Samson Akilo, his good friend and teammate. “I was so very excited when I heard they offered him,” Usilo, 17, said. “I was like, ‘OK, we have no time to waste.’” The Nigerian born products from Nazareth High School verbally committed to Manhattan on Wednesday, just a few days after the Jaspers offered the 6-foot-8 Akilo a scholarship. Usilo, a gifted 6-foot-4 wing one Division I coach said would be the “best athlete” in the MAAC this coming season, held scholarship offers from a number of mid-major programs, such as St. Bonaventure, Hofstra, Niagara and Marist. But when Manhattan began eying his good friend, coach Steve Masiello’s program became his desired destination. “It’s very important, there’s nothing like staying with someone you can say is your brother,” he said. “You can encourage each other on the floor and off the floor. We understand each other very well. I feel like it’s going to be a good thing for us.” Usilo came to America first, initially enrolling at a North Carolina high school before moving in with his aunt on Staten Island and landing at Nazareth. Akilo came a year later, and the two, who met once in Nigeria at a basketball camp and lived six hours away from each other, became fast friends. They’ve been inseparable since, Usilo serving as a mentor to Akilo. Together, they led Nazareth to the Catholic Class A city title in the winter -- Usilo as the team’s leading scorer at 20 points per game; Akilo as a dominant inside presence averaging 11 rebounds -- and have continued to grow during the AAU season with the Riverside Hawks. “Apart from friendship, Samson is a mentor to me,” Akilo said. “He helped me get on the right track.” “He’s more like a brother to me,” Usilo said. Akilo, a raw post presence, has shown improvement on the AAU circuit, excelling at Hoop Group Elite Camp. After the tournament, Manhattan and LIU extended offers. “He started playing better and better and better,” Nazareth coach Todd Jamison said. “He got seen by the right people at the right time.” Neither Akilo or Usilo has gone back home since coming to America. They talk often to their families about their progress and their budding friendship. The goal is to achieve success and be able to go home and lend financial support. “We’re just trying to use this opportunity we have to get a good education and to also play the game we love,” Usilo said. “I wouldn’t say it’s tough, but it’s not easy for us, to always think of you’re family. We use it as motivation. Each time we talk to them back home, they try to encourage us. In everything you do, you have to go hard, you have to put in your best. It gets us going, that’s why we push in everything we do.” “There are so many people out there wishing for this opportunity,” he added. “Here we are, we have it. This is great, we’re very happy. My family is very happy when I told them about the news. This is like a dream. It doesn’t stop here. We have to keep working hard.” * In addition to Usilo and Akilo, Manhattan landed a verbal commitment on Wednesday from Calvin Crawford, a 6-foot-7 wing on from Middletown, N.Y.. who will attend prep powerhouse St. Thomas More in Connecticut this year. Iona Prep sharpshooter Matt Ryan received a scholarship offer from Notre Dame on Wednesday. Newark East Side forward Ismael Sanogo committed to Seton Hall, picking the Pirates over VCU and George Mason. Cardinal Hayes point guard Shavar Newkirk added a scholarship offer from St. Bonavanture while his Team SCAN teammate Terry Larrier, a Bronx native who attends The Phelps School in Philadelphia, picked up offers from Kansas State, Marquette, LSU, SMU, Arizona and UConn. Manhattan offered Tottenville rising junior Nakye Sanders, who plays with New Heights on the AAU circuit. Thomas Jefferson combo guard Jaquan Lynch, a former Florida International signee, signed with JUCO Wabash Valley in Chicago. zbraziller@nypost.com

Once again, we are reported as being "in" on numerous high calibre players. I've been on the optimistic side (some would say "rose-colored glasses" or "cool-aid" side and I can't argue with that assessment) with regard to the staff's recruiting efforts. That having been said, even the most optimistic of us have to acknowledge the reality is that we haven't won very many of these head-to-head recruiting battles, even against teams we regard as being lower than us in level of hoops play and/or in league affiliation (e.g., Manhattan). It's time to start winning some of these battles and getting some of these kids. Many here are frustrated with the staff's difficulties in getting kids to sign in the fall and then hold on to them, while others - me included - urge patience by pointing to the success of getting A-10 quality players late, even very late, then having them succeed on the floor. But there's an obvious risk in not getting kids until late in the recruiting year and one of these years that risk will bite us in the tush. So while it's great to see these reports of us in on so many quality kids, I have to take it with a grain of salt until we start landing some of these kids early on, then keeping them. I still have confidence that will happen, and hope it starts soon - like now please!

Shavar Newkirk gave a verbal to St. Joe's according to Adam Zagoria. Newkirk's a nice pg whom we offered. Hopefully we'll find our own, but would have liked him. Especially galling to me because Martelli has signed some Philly pg's we recruited, and now he signs a NY pg we were recruiting. Hate losing to Martelli.

Newkirk is regarded as the best point guard in NYC 2014. I realistically figured he was a long shot coming to Bona. Saw him play 4 times last season at Hayes. Didn't have Severe's stroke from deep (few do) but all other aspects of his game are equal with better D & playmaking skills than Jon & maybe even a tougher kid.
bartmitchell.....agree. hate Martelli getting him.
There is another kid at Hayes that impressed me & I will see him this coming season. Mustafa Jones 6’7” with offers from Iona, Fordham, Quinnipiac, Siena, Fairfield, and Hofstra. West Virginia, Stanford, Rutgers, George Mason, Columbia, and Holy Cross are showing interest in him.
