Man that can't be good news. If teams like Duke and Michigan St. are now looking at Alexander our chances of getting this kid are very remote.

His family has been emphasizing that they would like him to play close to home. Last time I checked Duke and Texas are a bit of a drive. We have been in on this kid a while, and I like our chances with Coach Robinson leading the recruitment efforts.

I have no proof and no doubt that coach Robinson will be a surprise or two from the north to the Bob Lanier court next year. At least I am hoping and dreaming of such recruits coming from Canada through his efforts.

I hope you guys are right. I do realize that Texas and Duke are a bit of a drive from Canada. However, Duke is one of the top academic institutions in the country...on par with Stanford, Notre Dame, and really any Ivy League school. Now don't get me wrong...I hate Duke with every fiber of my being. But a degree from Duke basically guarantees job placement. You aren't paying for better professors but better connections. If that plays a role in Alexander's decision it could make a difference...no matter how far the drive is from Canada. And yes I am on Bonas side but I am just speaking hypothetically.

Quit putting down our school;;;;;; its that simple

Wow..little sensitive. I never once said anything bad about my university. I wouldn't trade the education and experience I received at Bonas for anything. But the perception out there is that schools like Stanford, Notre Dame, Harvard, Yale and Duke are on another tier academically...it's not putting down Bonas it's being realistic. It's just having an open discussion about another possible recruiting angle. Gimme a break.

Considering that we tend to get kids that fly under the big's radars, then develop them, and usually do not compete with, let alone out-recruit, the bigs, I am also concerned that he's now on the radars of many top recruiters. Still, I am optimistic b/c of the proximity issue and hopefully mom and dad are important to him, plus think of all the times you've heard some kid say after picking a school, something like "Coach X was the first to offer me and has been after me from the start. . ." So that gives us 2 big advantages. So keep the faith, until such time as he states "my decision is coming down to X, Y and Z," and we are not one of those, we've got a shot, and with the list of schools after him, wouldn't he be just the get we've been looking for to show-off to all our other recruits for years to come. Hell, we were just down double digits with under 4 to go on the road and came out with a W - we're on a roll!

Another plus: the playing time and development from day 1 frosh of our 2 latest big men; Andrew & YOU! And a chance that both are nba draft picks as it isn't a stretch that N is a 2nd round draft pick especially if he continues his consisent methodical improvement.

ZAGSBLOG is reporting that KYLE ALEXANDER is finalizing the details for his official visit to PITTSBURGH. Thanks Sip - when you go after talent sometimes you have to hold your breath.... last year we had to sweat it out when Posley took a visit to Wichita St after his SBU visit. Worked out pretty well for him and us ... a win win.

Its the worst part about recruiting

Always a bigger program that believes they can get what they want by bullying their way in at 11th hour. So right that it is a hold your breath and worst part of recruitment. Have to hope that our staff has planted all the seeds that are pluses for our program. In the end, the kid has got to want to come here. He should talk to Drew, Caswell, Mathew Wright and ask about their experiences.

Updated article on fall signee 6'8 Derrick Woods
SIGNING DAY PREVIEW: Charles Snorweah, Derrick Woods highlight college commitments at Pennsbury By Steve Sherman, 01/28/2015 06:05:47 PM EST
FAIRLESS HILLS — Two of the biggest names in area high school sports — running back Charles Snorweah and stretch forward Derrick Woods — will highlight Pennsbury High School's National Signing Day ceremonies next week.
The footballer, Snorweah destroyed the Falcon record books last season, rushing for a single-season school record 2,774 yards and 38 touchdowns on 309 carries.
Snorweah is headed to Rutgers where he will join former teammate J.J. Denman, a right tackle for the Scarlet Knights who is listed number two on the depth charts behind starter Taj Alexander.
Woods, who helped the Falcons get to the District 1 basketball championship last season, is following in the footsteps of 2006 Pennsbury alum Dana Mitchell, who played all four years at St. Bonaventure where she registered over 2,000 points for the Bonnies, ranking her the second all-time leading scorer at SBU.
With additional offers from Binghamton, Fairleigh Dickinson and Niagara, Woods selected St. Bonaventure because of a connection he made with head coach Mark Schmidt on his visits to SBU. Advertisement
City of Basketball Love, which first reported on Derrick's commitment to the Bonnies in mid-November, says that Woods will be a welcome presence in SBU's guard-heavy offense. The 6-8 forward gained a lot of confidence — and a few pounds — playing AAU ball for Team Final last summer.
Woods is currently averaging 15 points, three blocks and 9.5 rebounds for the Falcons. That's up from 10 points, two blocks and eight rebounds last season.
Woods says his top two schools were Niagara and St. Bonaventure. Pennsbury running back Charles Snorweah (34) is headed to Rutgers. Heâ s going public with his college choice Feb. 4 at PHS TV Studio. "I felt love for both schools but at the end of the day, St. Bonaventure pulled me in more,' he said. "I definitely felt more connected with their team.'
The fact that Schmidt was the man who recruited Woods and that the Bonnies offered Derrick way back in July on an official visit to the Olean, N.Y. campus didn't hurt SBU's cause either.
"He's a cool coach but he's a serious coach,' said Woods, of Schmidt.
"He's one of those coaches you can have fun with but he's committed and he can get serious with you — tell you what you need to do to make you better.
"That's what I want — a coach you can talk to.'
SBU plays an up-tempo style offense — the same as Pennsbury, so Woods should blend right in with the Bonnies. Pennsbury forward Derrick Woods (20) is headed to St. Bonaventure. "They play a lot of fast-break offense,' said Woods. "They like to get it and go.'
And Woods?
"I like to speed the game up instead of slowing it down,' he added.
The signing of Woods, together with that of LaDarien Griffin, a 6-foot-7 forward from Jacksonville, should give SBU a certain surge in the Atlantic 10, and beyond.
"They want me to do more than just rebound; they want me to come in and score,' said Derrick. "I definitely feel I can play a big role in that.'
While Woods would like to start his first year as a freshman, he knows there are no guarantees. For one, he'll have to battle soon-to-be senior Dion Wright who is the Bonnies' second leading scorer (12.7 PPG) after ranking fourth in that category last year as SBU's sixth man.
While 7-foot senior center Yassou Ndoye and 6-5 senior guard Andell Cumberbatch are graduating, Woods will still have to battle Griffin for minutes on the SBU hardwood.
"I'm not so much concerned about starting as I am about playing and getting good minutes, if I have to, come off the bench and play some good minutes that impact the team.'
"If I perform well, I want the chance to make an impact and help the team get some W's.'
Woods says his recent weight gain, which puts him at 215-220 pounds, has given him an advantage he didn't have before on the court.
"I'm eager to attack from the wing now,' he said. "I can just take it right on in. I'm stronger now and most defenders I'm faster than so I can just make a move and go right by them.'

I didn't make the connection between Woods and Mitchell. Lets hope he's half the player for the men she was for the women.
