Arkansas was a solid tourney team and Auburn has Bruce Pearl who is a strong recruiter.

Agreed....I guess we will figure out how much "playing close to home" actually means. Also in our favor could be ...at Bonas he probably starts/plays heavy minutes from day 1. Auburn and Arkansas maybe not so much.

Auburn and Arkansas maybe not so much. Our location and small school atmosphere are the main reasons we are where we are now - in the lead. And lets remember that when we are able to push back on an Arkansas and Auburn types for a key recruit. Believe in our school, our location and what we have to offer - its a great fit for a lot of talented kids and their families. Once you hop on a flight for a recruit you add to your budget and you flush away your key natural advantages of close location and the ability for family to visit whenever they wish.

Where we are now though, is unable to attract 3, or 4 star recruits. I ve said it before....."how you gonna keep Em down on the farm........."

Arkansas was a solid tourney team and Auburn has Bruce Pearl who is a strong recruiter. Although Arkansas had a nice year, their basketball program has been irrelevant since the days of Nolan Richardson in the late 90's. And Bruce Pearl speaks for itself. Tossed out of Tennessee for major rules and recruiting violations and for lying to investigators, he was given a three year death penalty by the NCAA and banned from coaching from 2011-2114. He then resurfaces at Auburn and now we are calling him a "strong recruiter". How bout chronic cheater and liar. Hopefully this is being pointed out to Kyle as he contemplates his future. Both these schools are football first. Not even close.

Its ok to be sad sometimes Hermit.... We are in the lead (hopefully!) with Alexander because Coach Schmidt and his assistants identify " under the radar" talent that they believe will help the team, and who they feel may have an interest in coming to Bona, and start and nurture relationships early in the recruiting process.

Mike Anderson, coach of Arkansas, a protege of Nolan Richardson, and former coach of Mizzou, has guided the 'Backs to win totals of 19,22, and 27 games the last three years. Bruce Pearl....say what you want, and I'll agree with almost every word. But he can recruit....he gets very, very good players. Look it up.

Hermit- If you are Mr. Alexander, Kyle's Dad, and you have been closely watching your son's recruitment every step of the way, do you think as a parent he is going to send his kid to Bruce Pearl? Bruce Pearl is Alie Hakim and Jerry Tarkanian rolled up into one.Yeah he can recruit and that is why he had the 3 year death penalty.

This isn't about what you , or I , would do though. It's about what the athletes and their parents do. Pearl has already signed 6 players, with an average star rating of 3.5. Evidently, their parents thought it was ok to sign with Pearl. My issue is more with how some posters think: this is Bona....look at who we are, where we are...our tradition....our values....( all true by the way). They believe because of this....it should be easy for coach and his assistants to bring in top notch players. Easy. Well, it's not! This coaching staff, underfunded when compared with other teams in the conference, does a great job ....as it is. They don't always get the player they want. I use Dyshawn Pierre as an example. If I was Pierre, I would have gone to Dayton too! One look at 13,000 fans is the seats and I'm sold! I hope Alexander comes to Bona. If he does, my hat goes off for the coach and the coaching staff.. If he doesn't.......roll up the sleeves and keep looking.....

Obviously I agree that Bonaventure is the way to go, but remember we are dealing with kids here. A lot of things that bigger schools and bigger names can offer than us that "kids" like. I still have a good feeling here about landing him. Worried he tears it up in that Canadian all star game and others get in the mix.

No posters are claiming the straw man you are trying to create......there are challenges to recruiting,,,but thats always been the case//// but apparently joe lomabardi and rob lanier had more resources than current staff...?? Hermit you know your history - please share with us any coach in Bona history that had the top asst not really responsible/dedicated to recruiting? Love to read your answer

Not entirely true at all.... we are dealing with dedicated parents who are choosing with their child the best option - just as Andrew and his dedicated parents did for him

Hermit old coach and any koolaid drinkers
Would you expect the head coach from Wash DC (Mike Lonegran) to be physically in attendance in Rochester more to see 2016 target Q Rose more often than your head guy from Olean a 90 minute drive away?
What is your expectation? or maybe a tank of gas is too much to afford?
