Hermit old coach and any koolaid drinkers..... Jh.....you have asked quite a few questions....and, honestly, I don't even know how to answer them. But, the kool aid keeps coming up. Kool aid. Kool aid. I remember the last time I drank kool aid. I have to share. It was, well, sometime around the fall of '68. Somewhere in the jungles of Viet Nam. We were setting up for the afternoon. Me and a buddy got the "hootch". Nothing more than a thatched roof with a hard clay floor, a mama san and her....I guess her grandchild, about 3 I guess. It was rainy as I remember. I had just received mail. Just what I wanted! Packs of kool aid! All Root beer! I was going to make mama san some kool aid. I walked to the corner of the hootch where the water urn was, and got some for the kool aid. I walked back to the other side of this hootch to make the kool aid. I turned when my buddy yelled....."Hey!". I turned and looked at the urn I was just at. Slithering down the wooden support pole was an......8' python. I could tell because he reached from the roof to the floor. He just slithered off into the brush.....not really bothering us. I mean..he was as scared of us as we were of him......we were loaded for bear anyway. But.....it wouldn't have been much fun if he slithered down when I was getting the water! This is how they lived. Probably still living the same way. Mama San wanted me to take her grandchild with me when we got ready to leave.....and cried when I wouldn't. I couldn't. I haven't had kool aid since.

Yes in this case I agree. I'm just saying in general. I'm friends and work with a guy who's son is a QB at powerhouse Bergen Catholic. He has been recruited since he was 12. He has offers from every single school in the country. His dad was an all american receiver at Rutgers and would love to see his kid play there. HIs dad has said its up too his son and that he wants the best for him, even though he'd love for him to go to Rutgers. Some times it's hard to tell your kid what to do.

Hermit old coach and any koolaid drinkers Would you expect the head coach from Wash DC (Mike Lonegran) to be physically in attendance in Rochester more to see 2016 target Q Rose more often than your head guy from Olean a 90 minute drive away? What is your expectation? or maybe a tank of gas is too much to afford? Wow. That's a cheap shot at "our" coach, not "your" coach. Is it possible, just possible, that our coach , at this point in time, does not have serious interest in Q Rose? Besides, gas is pretty cheap these days. just wondering, how many D1 recruiting trips have you've been on?

Wouldn't necessarily say it's a cheap shot....but when everone is constantly pointing out our lack of resources and liw recruiting budget, you would think Schmidt and staff would over analyze the Roch/Buff guys. You could make the rest of the budget work if we made those guys a priority.
Rose has some major offers and Cuse is interested as well. I hope this isnt the case, but maybe Schmidt and staff feel he ain't coming here and are moving on.

Yeah, now you're talking my language, Hermit. Those good old C's with water purification tablets, Lucky Strikes, domino sugar packets, and soluble tea packets. Yo, don't forget to have that P-38 can opener hanging with your dog tags. I actually liked the scrambled eggs entrée: it was an acquired taste but was valuable for trading purposes. Hermit and all other Viet Nam era vets (and maybe a few others with interest), you need to read "The Things They Carried" by Tim O'Brien. It will make you tear up, but it's worth the trip. As to recruiting I see Cody John committed to Weber State. How do we lose out to them?
P.S. I guess I was mistaken. It looks like we never offered Cody John.

Even if it is true, with Rose's play down the stretch are we that concerned? Maybe we are in good shape with other guards? Why does jh refuse to accept that Carmen Maciariello the asst at GW was formerly with City Rocks, so he already has a relationship with Rose? He has already hauled in Roland, Matt Hart and Tyler Cavanaugh so clearly he has formed bonds that are stronger than a tankful of gas. Everyone take a deep breath, signing day is approaching. Can we stop the attacks at least until we see what happens during the signing period?

The involvement and influence of parents in the decision of their child in selecting where they will play varies greatly. From very little influence, to literally making the decision for them & student/athlete agreeing. Most cases fit somewhere in between those two extremes.
However, anyone knowing anything about college recruiting is keenly aware of the influence of coaches, ESPECIALLY AAU coaches in where players are steered. They often play a heavy hand in this process & sometimes, sadly, more to their own benefit than that of the student/athlete. Typically (always exceptions) they want the HIGHEST ranked school which benefits THEIR resume with little concern for it being the best match for the student/athlete.
Most knowledgeable parents & players are aware of this. I have a strong sense that our current recruits fall into that category of being very knowledgeable.
Players & their parents must weigh MANY factors in making the decision and many will delve into obtaining information far beyond what was learned on their official visit and gathered from ongoing communication with the coaches.
Some may even delve into reading message boards like the Bandwagon in hopes of gaining further insight from “fans” of the program. I think that’s a good thing BUT they must exercise great caution since college message boards can be filled with mis information and personal opinions which don’t reflect all fans.
I know if I were the parent of a student athlete I actually would check out the college message boards of all those on my short list.
I would also CAREFULLY process what I read, realizing it’s a tiny sample of a few people’s opinions. I would compare & contrast to MY personal experiences with the school’s personnel (admissions, academic support team, strength coach, trainer, & of course entire coaching staff) and student body. No message board poster has that “feel” that the student/athlete & parents have with staff & student body.
There are many 2015 recruits mentioned in this thread. I enjoy reading the updates on each and wish them all well in their decision. Hopefully the “Good Journey” will be in their future this fall. Iknow they would florish at Bona!

Don't know all the details, but a couple of years back we were recruiting Matthew Atewe who was directed toward Auburn. After 2 years and a couple of bad injuries, he is on the transfer list. Of course he did not start his tenure with Bruce Pearl, but ended up with him. If you want to spend a couple of minutes, you can read about Coach Pearl.... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruce_Pearl

I am not interested in debating the whats and whys of our recruiting budget, etc etc but I got a laugh out of this story that I came across today via twitter. Miss St's new coach Ben Howland and his top assistant Korey McCray took a private jet to Twin Falls, Idaho today to visit a JUCO recruit named Ray Kasongo, presumably with a full tank of fuel. It got me thinking. Where do we park our private jet on campus? Anybody know?

It looks like we're searching for Andell's replacement in the JUCO ranks.
