The Rise of Karl Gamble
By Jamie Shaw
It has been a whirlwind couple of months for 6’8 AC Flora High School Power Forward Karl Gamble. First he picked up the first of his five Division one offers, Presbyterian. Then his high school team won its first basketball state championship as AC Flora defeated Hartsville. Gamble then switched AAU teams from SC Elite to the Reebok sponsored Upward Stars program.
To know a little about Karl, I think it is ok to say that as I interviewed him for this piece, Karl was on a Missions Trip in Puerto Rico, “I am in Puerto Rico right now, for a Missionary Trip. I am down here with Coach Wheeler and CJ Jackson (Upward Coach and Upward team mate) interacting with the locals.”
The slender Gamble’s skill set is that of a face up four man. He has solid hands and great length facing and defending the rim, “I see myself as a stretch four man, I am working on my explosive strength and ball handling.”
Currently Gamble has five offers in hand and a growing list of interest, “Right now I have Presbyterian, SC State, Wofford, Winthrop, and Houston, I am not sure about visits but I would like to have a decision made during my high schools season.” Once Gamble gets back from his Missions Trip, he has some uncertainty about his schedule, but rest assured it will be busy, “I am still deciding what camps and visits I will be going to, but I know I will be going to the ECU Elite Camp this month.”
Going into the July Live Period Gamble is sure to attract a nice following, for right now he knows, “Tennessee, Abeline Christian, East Carolina, and Mississippi St will be following” him.
