I love how JH's expectations have changed over the years. to criticizing Schmidt for not pairing up AN with talent so we can make the tourney (then Schmidt wins the A10).. to criticizing Schmidt for not taking advantage of AN in recruiting (then Schmidt wins regular season A10)... now we're supposed to be the Gonzaga of the east. Well, says a lot about the job he's doing if we have to drastically change expectations just to criticize the man.
and his condescending point about how we don't know anything is well taken. I don't know anything. I do know that I saw my alma mater win the A10 regular season with a line up of one of the most talented teams in all the A10 last season and in modern school history. They bring back similar talent this year. But what do I know? lets bash the coach because he wont share a drink with me at Angees and my outdated recruiting book says he's not landing star players.

. I recognize and celebrate the success the program has had against difficult circumstances. Thank you for the non-answer - many are still wondering what the process is too.........I am still holding out hope we do not strike out like we did last year in trying to recruit the help needed in the pivot to justify the whole program and make an NCAA tournament When was the last time the A10 ended the season without a single team in the Top 25? Has it ever happened before ? Your success.... A10 Regular season 2016 ...... 1st place 2015 ...... 7th place 2014 ......9th place 2013 ..... 13th place 2012..... 4th place 2011.... 7th place 2010.... 8th place 2009.... 11th place 2008.... 14th place

Although most of this criticism is tedious and insufferable, I do wonder why there is so much 2017 recruiting activity is being reported when 2 scholarships and a real need upfront remain for this year.

It's dangerous to assume that activity or insight found here is, in any way, indicative of reality.

Just like those 2008 results and the steady improvement the next few years after that were due to poor recruiting.

Our immediate need is for an experienced 5, not a converted PF. In order to battle in this conference we need a wide body underneath to protect the rim, rebound, and score in close. Without that pivot our job in this conference is much more difficult, regardless of our outstanding guard depth. This year's addition has some great potential, all that is needed is a seasoned addition to the roster.

This year's addition has some great potential, all that is needed is a seasoned addition to the roster. most of the country needs that though. Experienced, developed, consistent ~7 Footers that can protect the rim, rebound and score don't grow on trees. You are looking for a unicorn, no wonder its hard to land one. Does anyone in the A10 have one? Dayton with McElvene, maybe, but he's raw like Ikpeze will be and Tyson was. I don't think anyone else in the league even has what we are looking for. A consistent pivot is hard to find. Andrew and Youssou spoiled us into thinking big men are easy to land when in fact they aren't. We are experiencing what 90+% of NCAA teams experience every year except we have ourselves outstanding guards which many don't.

Schmidt takes over a struggling program in 2007-2008 and navigates a 14th place finish . The team (minus Mike Lee, plus Freshman Andrew Nicholson) improves to 11th the next season. Between 2010 and 2011 Schmidt begins putting together a supporting cast (Conger, Wright, Cook, Simmons, etc.) around Nicholson. In 2011-2012, Schmidt adds the final touches (Kloof, Mosley, Gathers, Ndoye) and, despite a slow start, the team finishes 4th in the regular season and wins the A10 Tournament to secure a NCAA appearance. Andrew Nicholson, a generational talent, graduates and the team limps to a 13th place finish in 2013 (heartbreaking end of the season for Conger). However, Schmidt has already started his rebuild, including an under-recruited Dion Wright. In 2013-2014, Schmidt continues to retool, signing this year's 6th man of the year, Denzel Gregg. The 2014 team improves on 2013, finishing in 9th. In 2015, the team improves to 7th, but more importantly, Schmidt adds two components of the "Big Three" - Adams and Posley. In the 2015-16 season, Schmidt presses all the right buttons to overcome the loss of Ndoye, navigating the team to a first place regular season finish (the first in program history) only to have NCAA aspirations controversially wrenched away (last team looking in). To me the cycle represents a team on the rise in the A10. A team which, if the trend continues, vies for an NCAA tournament birth once every few years. To expect 4th or better in the A10 every year, one has to be ignorant of Schmidt's recruiting cycle. That is, take the smallest(?) recruiting budget in the A10 and use it to identify emerging talents who will develop into quality four-year players. Place enough of those players around talents like Nicholson and Adams, and you're in business. If you don't like that cycle, you're ignorant of the program's very real limitations .

I don't know if I would waste too much time trying to argue facts here. You really are trying to argue with somebody who hates Schmidt. He disappeared for awhile, but for some reason he has been emboldened and will take every opportunity to bash Mark and staff.

Boy am I confused. Don't we have 2 guys who can play the point already, and no guys who can play center ?

If he can play though-- we'll find room offers from Boston College, Cleveland St., Middle Tennesee St., Bradley, among others www.verbalcommits.com/players/richardson-maitre

OBOKOH is not on this list, does this mean there is no interest in him? If we use both ships (and that is a very big if), almost guaranteed the second name won't come off that condensed list from JP.
