Kaputo is very quick and can create. He would be a great 4 year guard.

Agree B02 on Kaputo's creating skills which you saw first hand at the Bingo tourney last Dec. When Jalen Poyser steps foot on campus this weekend he does so as the #1 ranked Canadian in the class of 2015. He is a sharpshooter who attacks & finishes effectively. That’s a potent combination when you consider he hit 41% of his treys during EYBL play. Jalen plays AAU for CIA Bounce & his dad Mark is one of his coaches and will be providing him sound advice on selecting the right school for him. Following his recent URI visit his dad made the following 3 points when his son takes a campus visit. First, the school and coaches have to be receptive to Poyser majoring in engineering. Second, there needs to be a vision for how Poyser fits for all four years. And lastly, there has to be a coach that lets his players learn from mistakes. www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/eye-on-college-basketball/24712064/canadian-guard-jalen-poyser-diving-into-recruiting-process

Not so sure about that engineering program!

When one says they are interested in an engineering program its unclear exactly what they are looking for. SBU does not have an Engineering Department. Typically, schools with an Engineering Dept offer separate courses of study in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Computer & Environmental engineering. Not sure that’s exactly what Jaylen is looking for.
Bona has a Physics Department which offers two B.S. degree programs–traditional physics and EGINEERING PHYSICS. Bona also offers a Computer Science program.
In July The National Science Foundation awarded Bona almost $600,000 to help recruit talented students interested in science, technology, ENGINEERING and math. It is a 5 year grant that begins in 2015 when Jaylen will be starting his student/athlete career.
The “Professor” Andrew Nicholson was an accomplished student as a Physics major at Bona. Our coaches applauded & supported Drew’s pursuit of a challenging program. Nicholson chose St. Bonaventure in part because he wanted to go to a rebuilding program. At the time he said, “I wanted to go somewhere where I could make a difference.” From what I have read, it sounds that Jaylen shares that same thinking of making a difference.
Drew also made it known that he selected Bona because of the brand-new William F. Walsh Science Center, which he loved when he toured campus. At the time of his signing, Coach Schmidt said “That was the big selling point. For most kids, it’s about basketball first. Not him.” Sounds like Jaylen Poyser & his dad Mark recognize the value of a challenging education. Upon being drafted in the first round Andrew was called the smartest player in the entire draft based on the knowledge that he was a physics major at Bona. Commentators often marveled at the courses he took.
Finding the right fit is crucial to every student/athlete. I wish Jaylen all the best as he explores his options. I am confident he will be diligent in his search. If he decides on the “Good Journey” at Bona he will be following the path of the “Professor” from nearby Mississauga who excelled in the classroom & on the court and did indeed make a difference.

Found this tweet last night: DannyCIABOUNCE AB24@Damps32 "Back from unofficial visit at St. Bonaventure w'15 Jalen Poyser & '16 Nelson Kaputo. Thanks to Coach Schmidt & staff for having us.. #good visit."
just saw on RECRUITSCOOP that SG Christion Thompson has committed to RHODE ISLAND, according to a lot of posters on the RHODE ISLAND board, Thompson was the back up plan if they did not land POYSER. also Towson received a commitment from PF Alex Thomas who visited SBU 2 weeks ago.

SBU has a pre-engineering agreement a few other Universities with transfer after two years. An athlete could major in Physics and finish up elsewhere in a couple of years. Only an extremely bright person could finish an engineering degree in four years and play D1 basketball anyhow. Scheduling classes for engineering without conflict would be a problem even at a large school like PSU. That, I know from experience. Certain upper level classes are only offered every other semester with only one time slot.

does that mean d-1 basketball is only for those who are not extremely bright or that spending six years to get a four year engineering degree is the best approach?

As noted Jalen Poyser (#1 Canadian 2015) visited Bona this past weekend along with Nelson Kaputo 2016 & Christian David (#1 Canadian 2017). Poyser & Kaputo have been offered. The link below lists the top 10 Canadians in the 2015 class. The video provides an insightfull look at Jalen along with #2 Deandre Bernard 6’8” and #3 Munis Tutu PG. Coach Robinson is well known to Canadian coaches and enjoys a well-deserved reputation. His knowledge of these players will serve us well as we assess hoops talent to our North. northpolehoops.com/2014/09/14/canadian-national-player-rankings-nphtop10-2015/#.VCIhZzIsb85

I have no doubt that the addition of asst. coach Robinson is going to open the doors to the RC for some top Canadian prospects over the next few years. What a fantastic addition to the coaching staff, great move by Schmidt and Watson to bring in such a quality coach and recruiter. When can some of these prospects be signed by Bona's?
