The Bonnies offered two sophomores scholarships for the 2017 year. They are 6-4 guard Jarrod Simmons and 6-6 forward Kimani Lawrence. Both are playing at Cushing Academy in Pittsburgh.

Also for 2017 RIVALS NATION is reporting St. Bonaventure has also offered Makai Ashton-Langford. "the athletic, long, & skilled PG does it all." Makai has received offers from PC & BC.

Friar and Sipo,
Thanks for the update.
Question: Is it me, or is this a new trend of SBU offering to a soph or jr? In the past, I don't remember us offering a player this early in his high school career. Does this show us that SBU now has the ability to pursue that high level recruit early vs settling on a non committed lower level senior?
This was a subject of topic several years ago in which it was discussed that we were missing out on players who verballed early. SBU catching up with the times?..........

We finally have a young energetic recruiter with an excellent players background himself, who probably relates very well to today's ballplayer/student, and is not afraid of rejection. Good job thus far Coach Robinson, keep the visibility going and don't back off.

If you go after the high level recruits that get offers early you will get a lot of rejection. You hope for you get an occasional 'yes' but it is a lot of extra work.
But if you have scholarships to fill, as an A10 team with a first round draft pick and a recent NCAA appearance, you can always make a late run and steal a recruit that was debating between Bucknell and Ohio U. Just as was the case with Emmitt Holt when Indiana had a late spot to fill and it quickly made him change his decision.
When you have young and energetic coaches that are willing to spent a lot of time on the road courting recruits (and a program that is able to afford the travel costs) it can be high reward. The issue some programs have is balancing recruiting time and coaching/player development time. But the Bonnies have done a great job at player development so I don't have any reason to think they won't keep doing well in that area. Getting some better talent to start with will just be that much better.

I think it is more of a reflection on recruiting in CBB in general. Teams are going after kids earlier and earlier now. So yea I guess we are catching up with the times. It helps that we arent recruiting for the current season every summer too, like previous years.

Max- That is the case with these two but the rest all have Canadian roots. Not sure about the youngster from Maine.I guess a fair question would be what team members has each coach produced.

kcSBU,
That was exactly what I was thinking. Seems like past history we were recruiting current season. If this is a stepping stone for the future, the program could now be going to another level.

agreed..sbu hoops seems to be on very solid footing...time to get on schedule with the big boys..they will get their fair share of rejections..but these overstroked kids want to be offered early and often...same with football..and it helps big time to have a guy or two on the staff who the targets can relate to..seems like the energy and enthusiasm are building within the program..kudos to Schmidt and co and Watson---

could also lead to more players committing and then backing out of it as their stock goes up later in highschool... not going to mention any names....

Cushing Academy, this is Coach Curran's area to recruit and he watched these players on Wednesday afternoon. He will be back in the area next week, Vermont, to check in on '16 G?F Kendrick Gray of Rice (HS)
