The Bonnies offered two sophomores scholarships for the 2017 year. They are 6-4 guard Jarrod Simmons and 6-6 forward Kimani Lawrence. Both are playing at Cushing Academy in Pittsburgh. I'm pretty sure Cushing Academy is in Ashburnham Massachusetts, not Pittsburgh. They run a very nice program. Hope we get these guys.

JH -- take a trip back with me in the way back machine..in the late '60s and early to mid '70s the landscape of college hoops was vastly different than things are now...many conferences/schools were not integrated...So the Big 12, ACC, etc were not recruiting on the eastern seaboard...it wasn't until frank Maguire was set up at south Carolina [whole nother story there] that ACC schools went after NYC kids..even then, Maguire went after NYC Catholic League kids...john roche, brian winters, kevin joyce, jackie gilloon among others...UNC was in earlier, luring doug moe, billy Cunningham and eddie biedenbach for starters..UNC was big in Pennsy...dennis wyucuk [sp] from western pa and larry miller from NE Pennsy...so schools in the ECAC like st johns, nova, SBU, Lasalle..were able to get at worst, the 2nd and 3rd team all NYC kids..the same held true for Philly and DC kids. Derhut - that was encyclopedia-like! Nice recap. I think we lost our edge when we got to the final four and just assumed that top players would continue to flock to Bonas, not realizing the recruiting landscape had changed dramatically, and thus failed to adjust. The classes that arrived right after Lanier and the others graduated contained a few good players, but not the stars or depth that could keep us at that level, particularly when other eastern schools were on the rise and other leagues were now recruiting the areas we had just about to ourselves before. Of course, landing an Austin Carr or maybe one or two of these other guys might have changed that. It took us a lot of struggling to get back to just where we are now, but I really think we are on our way now. Go Bonnies!

Carr would have been in the class of '71 and been a part of the Final Four team had he come to Bona's. While he was recruited by us, I don't believe he ever committed to us. Fred Handler told an interesting side to Carr's recruitment.

thanks Charv - probably useless knowledge for some..but it was an interesting time for SBU- and yes, i agree with you wholeheartedly...SBU lost its edge..turned off a few key people and "friends of the Brown Indians" Probably the most telling bit of useless knowledge is that 2 or the 3 head coaches in the Little Three landed NBA jobs...Hmmm...I still think that Billy Moore was one of the most talented guys to every don the brown and white...saw him destroy ex Knick Pat Cummings night after night at the summer hoop camps at St Francis of Pa.
