Really missing his senior leadership tonight.

I hope my half-time buddies are reading this thread. I have been singing this song all year. The new guards may be more talented than Gathers, but to win at this level you need good guards with EXPERIENCE. Our new guards are gaining experience by learning on the fly, but "it ain't always going to be pretty". If you listened to the post game with Coach Schmidt, he said that they ran almost no sets against the 2-3 zone. They seldom involved the post, and played one on one. These kids thought they were going to run, gun and have fun. Well, Siena is no DARTMOUTH. Sienna controlled the TEMPO from about the 4 minute mark in the game. Surprisingly, we out rebounded them significantly for one of the few bright spots.

No doubt Jordan is dying to get out there but this could require a long recovery period.
Totally agree that there will be some ugly nights at the "point" but hopefully flashes of brilliance as well. Just hope the learning process shows steady improvement with the expected back steps along the way. Tonight we stumbled back. Lets see the flashes against the Griffs!!
There were some other bright spots besides our domination on the boards. We had 22 fast break points to their 11. These Bonnies show a greater potential to score on fast breaks than teams of the recent past. We also had 32 PIP to their 26.
In the Siena thread I mentioned they had more contributors in the win (5 double scorers to just 2 for us). This is further pointed out by their 28 bench points to our meager 9.

Not sure is anyone else caught it, but at one point the referee asked Jordan to move so the Siena player could inbound the ball in front of his spot on the bench and have a little room. Quite frankly, Jordan looked like a 60 year old (no offense to some of you) getting up out of his chair and "ambling" over to the end of the bench. I'm not a doctor and didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, but it sure looks like it's going to be quite a bit longer before he is active.

Jordan may not see the court this year based on how his recovery has already been longer than originally expected. With that in mind, we are looking at a steep learning curve for the PG position and should assume that our PG's played last night. The way I look at it is even if he does come back how effective will he be. Definitely not 100% based on the observations.

After reading the last couple of posts. I would redshirt Jordan. Patience will be needed to endure some ugly play, and if I am reading Coach Schmidt correctly I think he is bracing for that. I expected him to jump out of his skin last night. It was indeed very ugly at times. His post-game comments were not those of a coach in panic. They have talent. They will figure it out. Another thing, matchups! Defensive matchups were a problem without D. Gregg. Siena had a horde of 6'6"/ 6'7" guys.

If Gather's is going to miss say eight games and come back not fully 100% they should try to get him a RS. We could use him next year as well obviously. I am pretty concerned at this point that even when he does come back he won't be fully healthy. www.thebonablog.com

At least the guys who were on the court gave it their all....oldcoach mentions Denzell Gregg above....We sure COULD have used him in the line-up. I hope this kid learns a lesson from this six game suspension, whatever is the root of it. He really hurt his team by not being in there last night and that might not be the end of it, unfortunately....four games left without him. I hope they don't miss him as much as they did last night in those four games...
