After watching last nights Bona vs. Golden Griffs game I thought our offense really is not gelling yet. There does not seem to be a motion, or leader running the court instead it seems at times the team is just throwing up shots with nobody in position to rebound.
This drives me crazy, so with that said and after watching this team so far do we go with a 2-3 Zone? With Ndoye and Wright down low keeping them close to the hoop to get 20+ boards per game while allowing our guards to use their athleticism around the perimeter forcing opposing teams when they come to the Reilly Center to hoist the three's? While the student body continues to increase the noise and hostility within the RC.
After watching yesterday's game I really think as this season goes forward the defense is going to need to keep us in games and I dont think man to man is going to allow some of our plays to stay out of foul trouble especially Ndoye. Thus giving us issues on the offensive end of the court?
Does Bona go to a 2-3 this season? What does everything think?

NYC02,
The play that sealed the game last night and if I was Schmidt would show over and over again, was the last three made by Posely.
The ball went down into YN. He was very patient to not make a move early. Since YN had just made a bucket the previous trip down, the double team came, Posely went into the area where the double team came from and then YN passed to back to Posely who 'stepped into' the three----nothing but net!!!
It just shows when they run the offense and get it down low and if YN(or Dion) is patient, we will move the defense and get better looks.

Cant agree more! Just wish they moved the ball more. Seems like to much chucking up shots.

Not sure how close anyone has watched the in game interactions between coach and Jay Adams but it really looks to me like Jay has yet to really get comfortable running this team at the point. Many times I have seen coach send (or yell) instructions to Jay and I have seen a ton of confusion in the exchanges. I think once Jay gets truly comfortable and steps up his leadership at the point we will see a much better, more balanced offense. I really think Jays ability to step up his game is going to be key.

To Why do people think this kid can pick up the system in a couple of games? Do people believe that the PG position will be able to compete against A-10 competition. That is not just Jay.

I have noticed the same. I also noted during the Canisius game that YN was trying to give him some instruction as well. Time will tell how well he starts to pick it up.

With this team being so young, we just have to temper our expectations....My guess is that we could be a .500 team....worse, if the guys are not so good at picking up the system and the speed of the game and better, if the guys are quick learners....Unfortunately, next year might be the year we have to look forward to even though we lose YN, Jordan and Cumberbatch. With the young talent we have and Dion and Posely being seniors next season, a quick, tough team might give us more promise....This year should be a great learning experience for the young uns, though....

There's a chemistry that comes from competing in game situations. With so many new guys, we just don't have that (yet!)

The season is still young. We've got some talented new players and some key veterans still missing. I've got confidence in our coaching staff to bring this team together and make us proud.

I think coach put it best on his Siena post game show. Siena was running their sets and playing basketball and we were just "ball'n"!

The key to me has been/is/will be the backcourt. To be a successful A10/Div 1 team you need an experienced backcourt.....we don't have Kloof/M Wright/Gathers....instead we have Jay Adams (freshman), Jalen Adams (redshirt freshman), Alston (JC transfer), Posley (JC Transfer, albeit some Div 1 experience), Taqqee (freshman).....that is inexperience to the nth degree. They need to learn the offense, how to play high level D1 competition, how to set up the inside game and so much more.
We will not be a good team until the backcourt skills catch-up with their athleticism....and that's going to take time, hopefully this season and before the A10 schedule.
