OK, that's wrong of course, but now that I have your attention, I look at us as having one impressive W, 2 unimpressive Ws and a L, so that's 1-3 in a way, but on the other hand. . .
We won two games where we did not play our best, so for everyone else we are officially 3-1!!
And in those games, for this year:
- multiple brand new guards have controlled the ball under pressure without turning it over;
- multiple brand new guards have demonstrated a senior-like ability to hit critical shots from beyond the arc in pressure situations during "cruch time";
- eveyone has made key free throws;
- the team as a whole has performed well during "crunch time" and in a couple of hard fought games have taken small leads midway through the second half expanded the lead and closed out Ws;
- two opponents have stayed in games by hitting some really bad shots - 3s that were truly bad shots - I do not think it was bad D - rather I think it was smart to allow them to take shots from where they were b/c most of the time they'd just be TOs;
- we've given up many offensive rebounds to opponents not b/c of bad positioning or hustle but b/c they came on bad shots that bounced so far away from the rim that our guys under the hoop could not get to them;
- the last two points will soon revert to normal - too long shots will be missed and good positioning will lead to more, not fewer, rebounds;
- two key contributors, Gathers and Gregg - have yet to see the court or contribute anything other than words and good attitude;
- we have a potential star who has not yet "found his game"' but presumedly will;
- a potential key player, Andell Cumberbatch, has shown a solid overall game and that he is controlling himself and "getting it";
- our big man You really hasn't gotten started ye, but willt; and
- winning begets winning and winning tough games early leads to winning tough games later
for the future:
- we are as well set at the guard - particularly the point position as I can ever remember (and I started paying attention to Bona hoops starting in 1971);
- we have a staff that has shown the ability to develop athletic big men
- we already have 2 quality big wings signed for next year and 2 more 'ships to fill and are "in" on a good number of quality recruits, to join an already solid group of returning underclassmen
SO HAPPY THANKSGIVING, the Bonnies are 3-1 and things are looking up!!
