Vinny wondered last night if the Bonnies will look back on this weekends' game with regret as one they should have won and compares a moment in the game from Jay Adams to a moment Marquis Green had in 2000. He also wonders how good Pitt actually is (and so do I) Check out the link below. www.thebonablog.com

The team should move onto the next game.

I think a good team looks back at any loss with regret.

I am in agreement with Vinny. For a team like Bonaventure, there are no "good losses" only "good wins", and there will be regret when the time comes to look back at this game. ...and as Vinny says in the end, Pitt isn't really a top ACC team. I have been thinking that and even went to the point of looking up their YTD schedule earlier to confirm that (based on whom played and win or loss). I just didn't want to say it since the feelings have been pretty positive around here the last couple of days, and we should get to enjoy that once in while.

Such discussions always focus on a clutch play in the last few minutes or seconds and ignore all that happened previously. I beg to differ. The margin could be any of the 70 or so possessions we had or Pitt had. If I had to pick a really bad stretch for the Bonnies it would be the first 8 minutes when we had more turnovers than points and missed three from beyond the arc. I would just write that off as butterflies in a hostile environment. However, now we've been there, done that, and have the experience to avoid similar errors in the future. The coach and team will treat it as a learning experience. I hope that means we won't lose to VCU on their home court or GW on theirs.

We get VCU at home so we wont be losing there for awhile. I agree Class70. If the team is better off after the game win or lose then its a positive. Go Bonnies or someone retweeted some of the players tweets after the game and they were all positive and showed they learned something. Jay said something along the lines of minor setback for a major comeback. The players arent hanging their heads so I wont either. In 2012 we narrowly lost a similar game at Illinois and vs NC St. What impact those games had is unknown, you would have to ask those players but it didnt stop them from winning the A10 that season.

I drew a lot positives from the game. Pitt is down this year compared to what they usually are, but it is no treat going to the Peterson Events Center. The Bonnies hung tough with Pitt and it will only be good for the teams confidence. The one way I guess you could look at the Pitt loss as bad would be if you expected the Bonnies to get an At-Large berth to the tourney. That I did not, so I fine with the outcome and expect the players to learn from their experience.

As I posted elsewhere after the game, I think playing Pitt to the wire at their place will help in the various other hostle arenas we will be playing in in league play. I think it will also help the confidence of our young guards to have done so well against a good team that focuses on perimeter D.

I saw this on the Pit message board and thought that it was a good perspective from their point of view,
On a more serious note...why on earth did St. Bonaventure ever stop playing that 1-3-1 after they used it to such great effect in the second half? That was a big part of what sparked that 16-2 run, that we couldn't handle the 1-3-1. It looked like we had no idea at all how to attack it and kept passing the ball into trouble. And then they stopped playing it and went to a 2-3, which we had more success against. Then they went back to the 1-3-1 for a while and we still had trouble with it. And then they switched to a man to man, which we got pretty good looks against all night (not necessarily lots of points, but that was because we shot the ball so poorly).
At the football games I am always saying that when you find something that works, keep doing it until the opponent stops you and forces you to do something else. That would have been some good advice for Mark Schmidt today. They found something that was working well. Keep doing it until the opponent forces you to do something else. We never forced them to do something else, yet they stopped doing it anyway. Dumb.
what do you guys think?

Vinny wondered last night if the Bonnies will look back on this weekends' game with regret as one they should have won and compares a moment in the game from Jay Adams to a moment Marquis Green had in 2000. He also wonders how good Pitt actually is (and so do I) Check out the link below. www.thebonablog.com Above was an interesting and very insightful article from Vinny. I think Vinny and Ian are underestimating Pitt and placing too much blame on Youssou. 1. Vinny comments "I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Pitt isn’t a very good team. The Panthers will almost certainly finish in the middle of the pack in the ACC." -- Finishing in the middle in a powerful conference like the ACC means you are really good. -- Pittsburgh has 3 players that are 4 star recruits (Michael Young ranked nationally at 56, James Robinson 58, Josh Newkirk 70). Jamel Artis is Rivals one of top 10 players that just misses out. Rest of their roster is filled with 3 star recruits. Entire A-10 has just four 4 star recruits (VCU has 2 and RI has 2). Bonnies do not have a 4 or 3 star recruit on the roster. -- Schmidt's low rated recruit players takes Pittsburgh to the wire is an impressive accomplishment, especially when you consider Pittsburgh has only lost 3 OOC games in the history of their arena. Without a doubt outcome of this game makes me more positive about the Bonnies, and I can't figure out how anyone can feel differently. 2. Vinny has a paragraph on Youssou's struggles and finishes up with "Ndoye had a rough game against Pitt. As Ian wrote yesterday, Ndoye cannot be counted on for consistent offensive output." --Youssou himself admitted to having a bad game. His stats were 8 points on 2-8 from the field with 4 turnovers. You want to know something Andrew's stats were even worse (9 points on 4-14 from the field and 4 turnovers)against Virginia Tech in his senior year. Bonnies lost this game by 9. Someone could say it is a rare exception. Well very next game Andrew scored 6 points against Arkansas State with Bonnies winning by just 6. -- In fact Andrew had a rough OOC schedule during his senior year. Out of 12 OOC games Andrew was held to 10 or less points in almost half of the games (5 games). I'm sure at the time we were very worried and probably said the same about Andrew with "he cannot be counted on for consistent offensive output." A 6-2 record with a RPI in the low hundred is better than what I thought the Bonnies would do. Then you add the impressive game against Pitt I can't wait for A-10 games to begin. I now think the Bonnies can compete with the top teams in the A-10. This is something I haven't felt since Andrew was on the team. statsheet.com/mcb/players/player/st-bonaventure/andrew-nicholson/game_statswww.pittsburghpanthers.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/michael_young_853324.htmlwww.pittsburghpanthers.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/james_robinson_799359.htmlwww.pittsburghpanthers.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/josh_newkirk_853329.htmlwww.pittsburghpanthers.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/jamel_artis_853323.htmlsports.yahoo.com/basketballrecruiting/basketball/recruiting/commitments/2012/pittsburgh-12

I think a good team looks back at any loss with regret. Exactly. And, my god, if you're going to regret just one loss, why on earth wouldn't you regret losing at home to the currently 162nd best team in the country (kenpom) instead of losing on the road to the 51st?

I agree with Chuck. Pitt's defense was very good. They might not have the best offense at this point, but it's a very good team. And, without Ndoye, we lose a lot more games than with him.

Chuck I agree with some of the things you said. I think too much blame is going to Ndoye also. He actually has had a lot worse games than the Pitt game in my opinion. I think Ndoye will be fine. I one thing I don't agree with is comparing Ndoye to Andrew. Andrew could take over the whole game by himself basically. Ndoye can't do that. Defensively he can but he is still way too inconsistent on offense. I have come to accept this fact and expect Ndoye to have a couple moments a game where he gets happy feet and travels. Andrew also was pretty sick when he played Virginia Tech and Arkansas State his Senior year. And I wish we would have won by 6 points against Arkansas State.
If we can get to 9-2 in non-conference and then win 10 games in the conference, we should be in the top half of the A10 and looking poised to make another run in the A10 tourney. Going wire to wire with Pitt at their place shows me we should be able to match up with anybody in the conference.
