Thanks fjs - watching that is always difficult - so young - so talented - and seemingly so healthy.

I spoke with Jordan on Nov 7th after a team practice where he participated in all the team drills where he shot the ball well. But when it came to contact play he went to the sideline & worked on leg & hip strength exercises.
I asked him how the hip felt & he said he still had pain moving laterally but expressed confidence in returning to play. We talked about how his soph season seemed to predict a real break out junior year which never happened. He indicated the hip, originally thought to be pulled groin injury, never allowed him to feel 100% last season. When you look at his #s they demonstrate that.
First # is soph year followed by junior year #: FG% .424/391, TREY % .375/.360, A/TO Ration 2.12/1.23
The biggest drop off in his game was the A/TO ration & that drop had me thinking it was physical. Our conversation convinced me he was not whole all last season. His hip condition required significant repair (suturing labrum back on the bone & other repairs). Feeling pain in lateral movement 4 months after the procedure did not bode well in my mind. Remember Jonny Flynn star at Cuse 2007-08. He left early for NBA 2009 ,drafted # 4 had a similar hip problem. His first year for the Timberwolves he had 14 ppg on .417 shooting & 36% treys. Then he injured his hip had surgery that summer & essentially that ended his star potential in the NBA. Next year, following surgery, he dropped to 5 ppg. He then bounced around a few teams & ended up in Australia & other oversees teams not playing well. I believe he is no longer playing at age 24.
It must be devastating to a player at Jordan's level to be unable to play the sport you are so passionate about & have worked so hard to be successful. If anyone can rehab & get back on the court it is Jordan.
One thing I am certain of. Jordan has the spiritual strength, maturity and family support to cope with the coming months. My prayers go with him as he continues “The Good Journey” down the path of his life.
As a very special Bonnie may God always shower him with blessings.

Have to think maybe he and Schmidt realized that Jordan might not have been fit to start in the next two years on this team the way Posely has been playing. Likely could have been a mutual decision because Jordan deserves much better than to be riding the bench for his senior season. I wish hin the best of luck wherever he goes in the future.

Hope he gets a chance for a Senior Day of his own on Monday night. He's an A10 Champ, dammit!

This is too bad. I felt that Jordan was ready for a big year. I was expecting big things from him this year. I can only guess that Bonas didn't have a grad program he wanted to go into. No way possible that Schmidt didn't want him playing.

Over six thousands jobs have been lost!!! The elected officials of the Area are making NO attempt whats so ever to bring jobs in to the area... and don't give me that crap " oh look they are building a new Hotel in the Brown field site!!! " WOW Look at any of the kids that Graduate from the high schools or Colleges in area - there going too! Nothing will change - the same dim wits get elected over and over again due to voter apathy ( and now that Communist in Washington wants to let thousands more to stay here for free )

This is sad news, for sure.
One thing for certain: Jordan Gathers earned himself a permanent place in Bona basketball history with that shot last March. He won't be forgotten.
"Gathers for the win ... Count it! It's over!"

PLEASE shut the hell up and stick to not knowing anything about basketball instead of not knowing anything about life. by the way - if So Cal is so great, no one is stopping you from leaving. Don't let the door hit you on the way out. As for Gathers? I wish him nothing but the best. He got a tough break with injuries and was a good player/person. Glad to share an alma mater with him..

I wish Jordan the best, it is great to see one our players graduated in 3.5 years, definitely helps the APR. I hope it was Jordan's decision and not something forced upon him.

There is no benefit for graduating yearly. The points are awarded on a semester by semester basis and thus having dependable kids in the program for as long as possible is actually more beneficial to the program. (This is one of the reasons walk-ons will be given scholarships in their last season or two after they have proven themselves academically). While it doesn't hurt the team's APR, it provides another opportunity for a freshmen to come in and they are not exactly dependable. The turnover rate with freshmen and sophomores is fairly high.

Gathers is a Bonnie for life. Wish him the best. If he continues to play somewhere else, I hope he gets a great education and has a great final season. He came to SBU, gave it his all, and earned a degree. You can't ask for anything more.
