Chuck P is a lazy hack who wants to be given a story. A reporter's job is to dig and go get the story.

There seems to be an implication in this thread that no one from the Times Herald attempted to get an explanation from Bonas. I find that almost impossible to believe. If JP broke the story, doesn't it make sense that he also tried to get confirmation and a reason from Bonas and Jordan? Maybe the info being sought wasn't being given by either party. It would be my guess that the story was written by Pollock because he wasn't getting any cooperation after asking all the people involved for an explanation.

As far as the school's involvement, in my experience EVERYONE is scared to death about HIPAA. It is a very nebulous law which exposes parties to civil liability for money damages (that may or may NOT be covered by lisbility insurance - some policies may exclude coverage, thus saving some premium) for leaking or revealing virtually any personal medical information, and that just scares everyone into silence. The WORD comes down from corporate or other such higher-ups that silence is the rule, usually with a stated or implied threat that violation of that case and will result in dismissal. So silence is the rule, not the exception, even when it would otherwise be wise to "get in front of" the story or message. No one wants to be "that guy," so the story cannot be leaked even "off the record." Even a writing such as "unnamed university sources reveal . . . " could result in liability for which someone will hang.

Ok, I've heard it from enough sources that I'm confident it's fairly accurate - surprised none of our "sources" close to the program are willing to share (unless what I've heard is way off base..). Gathers told Schmidt he was ready to return after Christmas. Schmidt basically said, we're happy to have you but we are focused on the future so don't expect much playing time. Gathers decided he could find a better option.
Also surprised the "real" story of Schmidt's injury hasn't been shared at this point....

Not interested in rumors.

So are you saying that the rumor you heard is the "real" rumor/story? I'm saying don't put things like this out there unless you are truly confident in their accuracy based upon the source. That is dangerous.

Simply hearing something numerous times does not necessarily make it accurate. The sources matter. If I hadn't heard a first person account from someone who definitely does know, I would not dispute his claim. But thanks.

If I had a $1 for every story that I have seen on facebook, that turns out to be false I would be rich. They get passed around multiple times. What we need is a "snopes" for St. Bonaventure basketball stories.

I heard Schmidt hurt his Achilles responding to a fight between Gathers and Wright. Just what I heard... ZIP IT.
