The biggest game of the season is approaching with Dayton at the top of the A10 in Non Conference wins.
It is imperative that we come out strong, but more importantly our fans come out and support Bonas this Thursday. Here in NYC we are having a viewing party at Rathbones for the game as we always do, but those in the Olean area please attend this game and support on the Bonnies as a win against Dayton and their record this far would be a great boost for this years squad.
Lets go Bonas Beat Dayton!

Lets go Bonas Beat Dayton! How is that place? Winning is always better than losing.... I kind of feel Umass isn't very good..... Their coach also isn't the best recruiter..... A bigger state school should be able to get better players, but he tends to fail on that ... Lets wait/ see how we perform against Dayton.... If we play well/ win that will show a lot... I have noticed one big issue.... DEPTH or lack there of..... I would assume the DNP bench players seem to be a liability if put on the court. / yes I had a very nice day SHU beat another top 25 team/ SBU won... not a bad day.

I think this game comes down to how well we defend Dayton. They are a very good shooting team but we should dominate the paint. If they go bananas from 3 like Delaware or UMES then we lose. If they shoot like UMass, we win. Need You and Dion to rebound well and score down low. I think this will be a breakout game for Dion. He has been struggling lately but he will be a matchup nightmare for Dayton. The magic number is 8, as in 3's. Hold Dayton to under that number and we should be in good shape.

As KC said, the 3PT line is going to be huge. I knew going into UMass if we just held them to their season avg. from three we could win the game going away- we more than did that. Vs. Delaware and UMes we ran into two hot shooting teams. Dayton only dresses 7 scholarship players as they've lost two bigs and a guard in the last few weeks. Their tallest player is 6-6 Kendall Pollard whose a quick but obviously undersized forward. Dayton will live and die by the three pointer going forward this season given their extreme lack of interior size and depth. If we defend the three point line again and could get a few early fouls on Pollard this is 1000% a game we could/ and maybe should win. This is not the same Dayton team that went to the Elite 8, and it's not even the same Dayton team of a month ago...having said that, they do still have a better starting five in terms of talent, but their weaknesses could allow Ndoye/Dion to have their way inside all game long. KenPom give us a 50% chance of winning the game. www.thebonablog.com

Dayton is not a particularly good 3-point shooting team: 33.3%/182nd in Division I. They are very good at working for a good two-pointer: 52%/47th in the country. Opposite that, the Bonnies have a porous perimeter where we allow 36.4% beyond the arc. However, the Bonnies are tough inside where we allow 42.1%/ 31st in Division I. This looks like a great match-up. Those interested may want to view last year's game, which is archived here: www.atlantic10.com/mediaPortal/player.dbml?&db_oem_id=31600&mid=80217The Bonnies were in it all the way but lost 72-69. Dayton's big advantage last year was depth, something both teams are now lacking.

I watched some of the DAYTON game yesterday and have seen them on TV previously this year, what the Flyers' offense excels at is passing the ball around the perimeter to find the open man. This could give the BONNIES fits as they are sometimes slow to rotate the outer perimeters. Also, PIERRE will present match up problems, he appears alittle more bulked up this year.

Really good stuff above from KC. Since losing their 2 big men Dayton has been undefeated with 4 wins (2 impressive wins against Georgia Tech with 28 RPI and Ole Miss 93 RPI). Dayton has also changed their style of play last 4 games by averaging an incredible 24 three pointers attempted per game. The worse part is they made an impressive 44.8% (39 of 87) of those 3 pointers. Hate being the bearer of bad news, but Dayton is not just a 3 point shooting team. Dayton has 3 double digit scorers and 2 of them (Dyshawn Pierre and Kendall Pollard) score extreme majority of their points inside the arc. The 6'6" Pollard is the player who has replaced the 2 big men at center. He has been averaging 13 ppg since becoming a starter (last 4 games). Youssou needs to dominate the paint against 2 post players that are only 6'6". Need to make this a one dimensional game and keep Dayton to just a respectable 3 point shooting percentage of 35% or below. Andell, Marcus and Jay need to defend Dayton's 3 point shooters. To leave on a positive note. Slowing down Dayton appears to be a difficult task, but with just two 6'6" post players, how are they going to stop Youssou in the paint? warrennolan.com/basketball/2015/schedule/Daytonstatsheet.com/mcb/teams/dayton/game_statsespn.go.com/ncb/boxscore?gameId=400591157statsheet.com/mcb/players/player/dayton/kendall-pollard/game_stats

Passing the ball around until our defense loses someone is exactly how UMES beat us. If we have to cheat on defense underneath, they will use that to get someone open on the perimeter.

To be honest I don't like this matchup at all for the Bonnies. I have watched the past few Dayton games because I was curious to see how they looked after losing their two big men. Well they look pretty darn good right now. Watching them pass the ball around and find the open man is fun to watch. What I hope for in this game is the Bonnies 3pt defense wakes up and they can pull out a victory.

The RC is pretty dead without the kids there. There should be an asterisk on our home court advantage for this one.

This would be a great game for Buffalo or Rochester. Dayton fans enjoyed the NCAAs in Buffalo. I am pretty confident the atmosphere at Blue Cross would be better for SBU than the RC with students on break.
I really don't like games at the RC with the students away.

It sounds odd but for this game, once the half-court set on defense, they should run a 2-1-2 zone with YN planted on the foul line. Our SF/PF should be able to match up with their post players on the block. If they can force the ball to the middle of the paint, weak side help can rotate over and YN is just one his giant bounds away from mucking up the middle. With YN at the foul line, he can cut off the cross court passing lane and defend on 3s from the top of the arc. I’m not asking that he patrol the arc and run out up top on every play but being in the proximity might be enough to cause some fear. The only downside is that YN is susceptible to reaching fouls. If he can stay patient and out of foul trouble, this approach is a winning one. Obviously you can’t run this look the whole game but it would cause confusion for Dayton. They would be wondering, why in the hell a 7’ is patrolling the elbow and not locked under the basket.
On the offensive side, people have questioned how Dayton will be able to guard YN in the post due to their size. Unfortunately, YN is a liability unto himself. I agree that Dayton will have their hands full if YN gets the ball in the post, but first he has to catch it and that is not always easy for the big fella.

Dayton will be playing without the benefit of their 12K+ fans. They come in at 11-2 with both losses on the road against UConn & Arkansas. Dominated the Dukes 81-55 allowing only 3 bench points.
Flyers keep teams to 60ppg by limiting them to just .296 from beyond the arc. Held Dukes to 27%, well below their season.371 (#2 in conference). Sure wish we could defend the trey like that. Against us, teams are connecting on almost 37% of their treys and that’s after our total shut down of Umass, who are a bad trey shooting team. Still satisfying to see them shoot 18% (for a change). 58% Treys by Delaware & UMES was key in those terrible losses.
Siebert is their top scorer (15.7) & #6 in Treys Made so will receive our focus on the outside as PG Smith looks to get him open looks. We should out rebound them & our ability to make steals may challenge their usual good ball control (11.5 TOs). Marcus, besides being the A10’s top scorer (17.7ppg), leads us in steals (21). But Iakeem is by far the team’s greatest thief. In limited mins (9.5) he averages a steal every 10.4. Almost twice as many as Marcus per min played.
The Flyers, like UMass, get to the stripe far more than their opponents (351/209 FTs). One of the remarkable things about the UMass win was that they out fouled us. Would love that to happen Thursday.
As we prepare for the Flyers its nice to see some of our players at the top of Conference stats.
Marcus, #1 scorer and # 2 TREYS Made, #6 Steals,
Youssou, #1 rebounds @ 11.5, #1 Blocks (3 a game)
Dion #3 Off Rebounds
Jay #10 Trey % @ .417, #10 Assists @ 3.3
Andel #10 FT% @ .775
