OTH = 2nd rate!
Seriously, the only reason to read it, is to get the quotes from Schmidt and the opposing coach. If Ian had quotes for his blog from the coaches after the game, I would ever go to the website!

The th is a community paper .It covers all area news , issues and sports Most subscribers do not subscribe just to get bona hoops news...it's not important at all to many of them. It gives priority to bona because it's the only d-1 team in the area...many readers would prefer more coverage of local high schools.

The point is that chuck threatened to not cover the team because coach didnt want to give up information on injured players. thats a joke and extremely unprofessional. all good reporters have their sources and for the most part its never a coach. if you cant dig for your own leands you dont deserve to get the story first. grow up chuck and start doing your job or get one of your reporters to do it

towniegrad...that is crap. The OTH should trip over themselves to get people like myself from out of town to subscribe online to read expended coverage of the Bonnies. Then in turn go to the local businesses that would capitalize-restaurants,hotel, Seneca Casino, SportsLocker etc etc- and say look how many hits we get from this area or that area. And we wonder why newspapers are dead.

123Rob... Do not say that newspapers are dead. They are not dead. I work for one. And the proper term is "dying."

I don't understand why we keep talking about this. The OTH is the Bonnies' hometown paper. We are disrespected in many places, but we certainly should not want to be so in Olean NY. Kiss, make up, and move on down the road.

I don't think it's a Olean Times Herald vs. Bonas problem, you gotta look at it in the old/new media paradigm. Of course, news from Bonas (true or false) will emerge in tweets or facebook first. They are the (shout out to my history degree) "primary sources" for the 21st century. Gone are the days when the Olean Times Herald will break the latest news about Bonaventure basketball for the consumer. 9 times out of 10, the Bandwagon will scoop the OTH especially because SBU is a small community and people love to gossip/tweet

I corresponded with the OTH years ago, when there wasn't much information about potential recruits available. I mentioned that stories about recruits or potential recruites would be worthwhile reporting for their readers. I received the reply that "I'm sorry, but we don't report on rumors". I politely reminded them that a few calls to AAU coaches, HS coaches, parents and friends could be able to change the rumors to facts and, isn't that in fact what reporting is all about? No response.
To this day, they still refuse to do this, when all the major papers/websites/bloggers do it...#stuckinthepast

Now It's being reported there's no guarantee that Jay plays in Brooklyn? Will be evaluated by doctors Tuesday.
Here we go again with the drama.

Now It's being reported there's no guarantee that Jay plays in Brooklyn? Will be evaluated by doctors Tuesday. Appears to me Schmidt is down playing everything with no guarantee, evaluated by doctor on Tuesday and Jay has to get in a practice before he can play. I think Jay will be playing Thursday.

The one catch with this reality is that with new media, it's easy to pass along rumors that may or may not be true. In traditional media there's (usually) some effort to confirm with people with actual knowledge of the facts. We all want to know something as soon as we can, but we just have to be aware that we're hearing here or reading there could be completely wrong. Reader beware.

What's the word, dudes? Do we think he's a go for Thursday?
All I have to rely on is his tweet today, which sounded pretty optimistic.

I'd be surprised if we get a definitive answer before tip Thursday.
