According to. Tweet from an ESPN source Akeem Alston is leaving the Bonnies. Hope it isn't true.

Wish him best of luck, but I would rather see if a PG like Adams who can shoot is out there.

I think we'll see a player like Jordan Gathers, who doesn't handle the press as well, but is a good facilitator in the half court offense from the 2 guard position. It will be a hard to sign a true point who is looking at Jay Adams and seeing about 5 minutes a night for three years.

How does this sort of thing normally come down? The player sees he's going nowhere, expresses dissatisfaction and comes to an agreeable parting after consulting coach? Or does it start with the coach/staff seeing they've got an unproductive scholarship player and encourage him to transfer? More specifically, in our small network does anyone on this board have any insight as to how this one came about?
Regardless of the above issues, best wishes to Iakeem in pursuing his baccalaureate. May your time at Bona's be a cherished memory.

Last Jean Yves Toupane transferred to Division 2 Gannon, allowing him to play immediately. I would see the same scenario for Alston, playing div 2 probably close to home. I doubt he would get a Div 1 offer which would require him to sit out a year, and then play 1 year. Of course we did it with Kevin Houston, but Iakeem is no Kevin Houston. I wish Iakeem the best, and sorry it did not work out for him.....met him briefly at last years A10 tournament and he was really looking forward to being a Bonnie.

Calling Adams#4! Opportunity is knocking as the guard depth chart is shrinking.

So long, Keemy. I'll try and remember him in a positive light. So, let's recall him pounding his chest @ud after a barrage of and1 drives.
Here's to hoping my boy Jalen and Xavier stay put. There's definitely untapped potential between those 2.

More specifically, in our small network does anyone on this board have any insight as to how this one came about? Don't have any insight on this one in particular but based on my discussions with D-1 coaches in the past, many times it starts with parents (or AAU coach). Parents, et al, think a kid should be getting X minutes, call the coach way too many times "demanding" more minutes. The kid then gets in on the act, the coach says "feel free to explore your options" & the divorce happens. Or, plain and simple, the kid can't play, or doesn't fit with other players, knows he's getting deeper on depth chart and he talks to parents/AAU coach asking them/him to explore other options. Sometimes a kid is forced out by coach - take your pick of any & all.

Wish Iakeem all the very best.
Knowing his play in the previous 3 years out of high school prior to Bona should not surprise he did not become a contributing PG in the A10. Loved his energy level & displays of emotion.
His greatest attribute was his blinding speed which translated into steals. He had play making skills but they were overshadowed by his capacity to cough it up & that was his history coming in. His senior JUCO season he played just 22mpg & turned it over 100 times. And that’s where they play little D. At Bona he had more turn overs per min played than anyone.
Div II would appear to be in his future. Hopefully we help him get a good match. Getting his degree while playing the game he loves must be his focus.
Having another ship provides an opportunity to improve the team. It’s all about recruiting in the weeks ahead.

Absent another injury, he had to see his college career would end on a season with almost no significant PT. IF her wants to play, and thinks he can, a transfer makes sense. Sitting virtually all your last two years is no way to go out - sucks. He's better off at a lesser program - Gannon, Mansfield State, Niagara, Canisius, e.g.
