Obviously wish he would of stayed, for our benefit. He def brought a lot of energy off the bench, and was lightning quick, getting to the basket.. Can't blame the kid, i guess, if he ends up transferring to a D2 school to get more minutes in his last season.. Still like to think, you should finish what you started. But best of luck Iakeem!.. I know on here, and anywhere else you look, you can't find any information on whats going on with Jalen Adams? Is it really his defense that keeps him from getting minutes? From what I've seen and heard, the kid is instant offense. There has to be a way to utilize him better, or in his case, utilize him to any extent!

How does this sort of thing normally come down? The player sees he's going nowhere, expresses dissatisfaction and comes to an agreeable parting after consulting coach? Or does it start with the coach/staff seeing they've got an unproductive scholarship player and encourage him to transfer? More specifically, in our small network does anyone on this board have any insight as to how this one came about? Don't have any insight on this one in particular but based on my discussions with D-1 coaches in the past, many times it starts with parents (or AAU coach). Parents, et al, think a kid should be getting X minutes, call the coach way too many times "demanding" more minutes. The kid then gets in on the act, the coach says "feel free to explore your options" & the divorce happens. Or, plain and simple, the kid can't play, or doesn't fit with other players, knows he's getting deeper on depth chart and he talks to parents/AAU coach asking them/him to explore other options. Sometimes a kid is forced out by coach - take your pick of any & all. I don't like the "forced out" aspect of this last line, but, in my opinion only, as I don't have any inside info.......I think it comes from coach. I'm not sure exactly when this practice started, but it seems it is not unusual for a player who is not contributing as he was expected to to be sat down and explained the options. The question is whether the player actually has the option of staying. My opinion.....no.

I think we'll see a player like Jordan Gathers, who doesn't handle the press as well, but is a good facilitator in the half court offense from the 2 guard position. It will be a hard to sign a true point who is looking at Jay Adams and seeing about 5 minutes a night for three years. I don't recall Jordan ever having problems with the press.

Iakeem, you came to Bona and gave your all.....good luck to you in the future.

Nobody said Alston was forced out...just that it is one of many reasons a player COULD transfer...I hope it was because he didn't see playing time increasing and is looking for better opportunities for himself

Is this the appropriate place for discussion of what we do with the three open scholarships?
If so, sign me up for a 4 year combo-guard (Cody John?), Kyle Alexander (not a 4 year big as a general category, just Alexander himself), and a JUCO big man (not one in the Dion Wright mold, but a true 5).

Don't blame Iakeem... or maybe the 2nd player to leave this year.... and last year's departures...dont blame Jean Yves Pierre or Matthias Runs These players were in no way 'recruited over' Instead they were recruited into an A10 program and were exactly what they were... closer to D2 talents... thats 2 years in a row
Who brought them in? who wasted their time? whose wasted those rides? Blame the adults
This is why today we wish we were dancing rather than talking about how amazing it is that we made it to the dance or the sweet 16.
These recruiting mistakes must stop - period - else be happy with .500 and wishing you made an NIT.

We needed a starting point guard and we got a reserve who played limited minutes and one of the top play makers in the conference.
I think if we knew we had that going into the season, we'd all have been thrilled.
I also think most of us would have gone with Alston as the to play maker and Adams on the bench.
If you go through the teams that are where we want to be, in the Sweet 16, most of them only give 10+ mpg to 7 or 8 guys. There are 13 on scholarship. Someone isn't going to play and some aren't going to play a lot. Its not a shot at Schmidt, its math.

JH. The Bonnie's are the only DI team that take chances on guys that don't pan out? It happens all of the time and not just in basketball! It is always a jump to the next level, whether it is athletics or academics. As long as we keep the ones that we want, others will come and go and find their niche elsewhere.

See Lewis Leonard, Malcolm Eleby, Don Burnett, Andy Moore, and the countless others that have transferred out of Olean. How did Mark Erb work out for Jim O'Brien? There are plenty of D-1 prospects that have attended St. Bonaventure and every other D-1 school that never turn out to be D-1 players. Dayton proved you only need six D-1 players on a roster to be successful in the A-10. This team returns three proven D-1 scorers next season. I have no doubt that Gregg and Taqqee can compete at the A-10 level. The nucleus for a very good Bona team next season is already in place. It won't take much more to make this a very good A-10 team next season.
