Rob-Fal was just renovated during the summer of 2014, the project was financed by the loan through the Catt County IDA. Those rooms are now up to standard and attractive for incoming frosh and their parent bill payers. Dev is a quintessential building, it is one of the most iconic buildings on this positively gorgeous campus and will never be demoed. I loved that building for all its warts, it was a special experience for all. It takes me back to the very early years of Bonas, and it stands as the symbol of the university. It was the first building I observed on this campus through the shroud of fog on an early April morning many years ago.........its still very emotional for me.

These JCC students will not have library, commissary or RC privleges as those services will be provided either on their own campus or through the commissary/kitchen facilities at Francis Hall. So the degree of interaction should be limited. I agree thought that this issue has to be handled carefully. JUCO's will not be allowed the free range of campus, just like the Canisius/BuffState situation, they are merely dorming on campus. If they are living in Doyle how are they going to use the Francis dining hall? Do you know that they won't have these other amenities? It would seem to be a tough situation to monitor. Canisus/Buff State is a very different area than where SBU is. If this goes through it will be interesting to see.

That may be the first post by firstdev that I agreed with. Dev is a classic and should never be demoed or changed. It is also more comfortable than it was in my day. What were doubles are now singles and what were triples are now doubles. So, much more space and privacy and fewer people to share the common areas with. (Frankly, however, the crowding didn't bother me at the time. It probaby cemented more close friendships).

Sneakers - thanks for your courtesy....I do appreciate all you have accomplished through your time and efforts on behalf of Bonas. We just sometimes disagree on some nuances.........

I visited the prison in Venice across the Bridge of Sighs a couple summers ago. Dev was better - and I wouldn't have lived anywhere else on campus.

My first 3 years were spent in a triple on 3rd floor Dev with great roomies (right FJS64?) and I wouldn't have changed it for anything.
Still wouldn't.
It was also the warmest place on campus during those ultra-bitter winters.

It was also the warmest place on campus during those ultra-bitter winters. Room 341, right across from the Prefect's room......they have also changed the room numbers. All floors or dorms were not class specific. Changed for the next year.....had to move to 111 Robinson then 261 Dev (junior) and 218 Dev (Senior)......Rob/Fal were called the new dorms back then. Memories of Rob were the cold drafts (not beer) that seemingly went through the walls, especially the end rooms which really were cold.

Yes, the "new dorms" were like being in a building made of swiss cheese.
About the only time things warmed up in them was during the carp fights.
Or during basketball season.

I lived on campus first two years, off campus in Allegany second two ('05-'07). You'd have to be nuts to spend your upperclass years on campus. Completely different experience. I agree.. I lived off campus my last two years...

Lived in 109 Fal for two years. Remember ice forming on the inside of the cinder block walls of the room during really cold weather. The light wiring in Fal wouldn't accommodate the use of a space heater which would trip the room's circuit breaker. On the other hand, Dev was quite warm during the winter. Recall turning off the radiator and opening the windows some winter days when I resided on 4th Dev my freshman year.

I guess many of us opened the windows in Dev and shut off the radiators......back then a powdered drink called Tang was popular (thru NASA)....would make some and stick it on the window sill and make a frozen or at least very cold beverage. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tang_(drink)
