I do get concerned with one and done's with Schmidt's system. For most of our JUCO's, it is usually their second year that they seem to fit in and really produce. While there are a few players who seem to be exceptions to that rule (Marcus Posley comes to mind), for other players like Andell C, Eric Mosley, etc their second year was a vast improvement. This player does not even have the benefit of redshirting. On the other hand, we need height this year. So if the Florida visitor shows any upside, I say take our chances and sign him over this one and done.

It seems like a great fit for both. There is a lot of potential this year but limited big man depth could be a problem that Kambola would help.

if they are lucky enuf to corral kambola i believe he would be the starting center. would be a nice piece to the puzzle, and could help push the bonnies upward in the A10.

Kambola would prob be the starter and do believe he can score more than a few on the block. Highlight reels shows a pretty nice looking 3 point stroke.

We have not seen enough of Jordon to know what he is capable of but at least he has practiced with the team. If they are capable, there will be plenty of playing time for both. Otherwise we will be going with a PF at center as appear to be a lot of talent at other positions.

Schmidt knows he has something cooking with Posley, Adams, & Wright. Even if it might hurt us 2 years down the road he knows with just another piece or two we can have a special year. Go for it!

Another good article from Ian, but I think he is underestimating JP Kambola. -- Watch the attached video of JP (it has been posted before) and you see a muscular, physically fit athletic big man who has impressive blocks and dunks with him soaring over other players. Even in their wildest dreams Dees and D'Lancy could not make a video like this one. It is important to note this video was made with JP competing against quality D-1 schools, such as 3 of those blocks were made against UAB, who would win 2 games in the NCAA Tournament. -- Only stats that matter are the stats after JP became a starter. During these 13 games JP averaged 10 points and 6 rebounds per game, in just 23 minutes of playing time. Pro rate it for Youssou who averaged 32 minutes of PT, JP's stats become 13.9 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. -- Above stats shows JP is much more of a Youssou than a Dees and D'Lancy. -- The most impressive thing about JP is him being a difference maker for Marshall. Prior to JP being a starter Marshall was 2-15 (both wins were against teams with RPIs over 300). With JP as a starter Marshall would finish the season with a winning record of 7-6. -- JP would be a great signing by Schmidt. Bonnies staring lineup looks great with Dion, Courtney, Marcus and Jaylen, while JP would be a really good final piece. Simply put JP could become a difference maker for the Bonnies. www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6G0BL8ijh4espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/player/gamelog/_/id/57333/jp-kambolawarrennolan.com/basketball/2015/schedule/Marshall

In addition take so much pressure off Tyson and Woods development! I like both of them starting in a supporting role as opposed thrown into the fire. JP could be the difference between a good year or a special one!

If JP does not sign, I still remain confident Schmidt will sign another big man who will play this year.

Guys- Freshmen are playing key roles and are being thrown into the fire by many schools. The additional seasoning being created by prolific AAU ball and competition has them ready for better Division 1 competition than was the norm years ago.

This might be true at schools like Kentucky and Duke but not so much with recruits who are not pro prospects when they graudate high school

Really! Just look at the top 10 conferences and see how many freshmen are making an impact and playing quality minutes.

For what its worth, if you look at last season's A-10 all-rookie team, the combined conference record of those players' teams was 38-52 (this counts Fordham twice). A .422 winning percentage, which would have been good for 10th in the conference. The two players from teams with winning records played the 5th and 3rd most minutes of players on the all-rookie team.
If Jay Adams had played the full season and made the All-Rookie team, he probably would have done so at the expense of Terrell from URI, which would have made the combined winning percentage worse.
The top five teams based on conference record had exactly two freshmen between them who played over 25 minutes a night (both were from URI).
The A-10 doesn't get players who can lead its top teams as freshman.
