Ah yes, we again hear this administration's own Lord Chamberlain, the always personable Sneakers (the egalitarian who discourages puny donations of less than a grand to the BAF) personally defending the indefensible, including his own personal choice for AD, the now discredited TK. In his world of country clubs, Merlot and personal servants, the Bona students mean little...........just another part of the community constituency to be ignored......as others have been in the recent past. Very sad to see such folks actively disparage a student core of fans so very dedicated and committed to Bonas...but such is life in the dog eat dog world of business according to the Dark Lord. UMass fans should be grateful - TK's tin foil hat bares their logo and is a perfect fit. Just perfect for an all time sell out of Bona tradition. But its still quite a feat, we hired a UMass administrator, pay his salary, and he is still under their command - great job Sneakers.

While looking through my old media guides at the De Soto, I get that longing feel for what this program used to be like...The lower bowl packed 18 hours in advance of each game, as students were decked out in their respective dorm floor outfits. Cool nicknames like tard kings were prevalent. Bonas had a snazzy pep band that brought the house down. Add in the ultimate crooner in Lou and it was a the most cherished venue this side of Pauley Pavilion. Not sure if anyone ever mentioned it, but ESPN once rated it as one of the 5 toughest arenas in the country. It had the proud Brown Indian mascot working the students up into a frothy lather, the lil squaw didn't hurt at all either. The students used to march in a coffin with the current opponents moniker festively displayed, all to the glorious tune of Wade in the Water (just bringing up the music on YouTube makes my inner thighs moist with anticipation). When the Bonnies scored their first bucket, toilet paper would rain down from the heavens. Pre-game beers at The 'Skellar with joyous friends. At halftime of the game, you could saunter into the concourse for a full-sized wiener (unlike the tiny, shriveled wieners they serve nowadays) from the concession stand and regale yourself in a delightful conversation of how great the Bonnies are, and life in general. After yet another Bonnies victory you could jockey for position to get out of the parking lot. The race to Angee's was rite of passage. Do you cut through the cemetery and head the back way, or do you take the not-so secret roadway along the railroad tracks that brought you out to where Constitution Ave is today, or were you the traditionalist and went your merry way through the normal means of traffic? Fast-forward to today's culture. Nothing as it used to be like and now the beloved students aren't even on the floor. I cried another tear for this dwindling program. Post of the Century

So what you're saying is that this thread is still worth reading? I stopped a while ago and missed this gem entirely. There's a logical fallacy in there. To wit: all threads worth your time will have some excellent postings, but not all excellent postings will be in threads that are worth your time. Full disclosure: I gave demourse's satire a "Like."

1 row of seats made VCU, UMass etc.. happy so clearly it means something. We have an AD who in this instance would rather appease our competitors than his own fan base. Just looking for Bona to be better than "status quo" of bending over and taking it. If you and others are ok with taking it, fine, enjoy it. it's time for a little history lesson...in the 150+ years bonas has been in existence there have been fires (1 started intentionally...i know because i was a student there when it happened), floods, and a scandal over 10 yrs ago that we're just starting to get over...yet we've had how many posts over a loss of 1 row of seating in the rc?...with all the real crises that we've had (and still have) in this school (declining enrollment and a thread-bare budget for academics and athletics are the two biggest crises today), this is a problem?... You actually have parts of my point here. When anyone with a smart big picture head looks at a systematic problem (in our case bare bones athletic budget, declining enrollment) you look at advantages and disadvantages already in place. Without going into detail of both when compared to other schools in our conference or region on a basketball level whether you rank it big or small our only advantage is the court side student section and passion of that student section. It's already been established that Tim did not have to hurt our one advantage, he didn't have to do it. So why in a time when we have nothing in the grand scheme of things compared to other A-10 schools would we do anything to even by chance hurt our one advantage in the A-10? To me it makes no sense to jump to what our competitors want yet ignore what the fan base and school need. The seat thing will not hurt us this year but long term it's just another small time uncreative decision that when stacked with the history of poor small decisions creates the problems we have today. Unless some mystery donor with about 50 million comes along we can't build Bonaventure with huge game changing decisions (those are the easy ones). It will be the small decisions and strategies over time that will shape the future of this school. We need creative, innovative decisions and slapping a row of seats on the court like every school in the country does mostly unsuccessfully is just another lame half ass way of playing catch up and copy cat. We need decisions that use what we have and what makes us unique to our advantage, not disadvantage. Again, our competitors want what Tim has done, how on earth can you rationalize this as a good decision for Bona?

I recently attended a luncheon talk given by the retired founder of a very successful large construction company who related "when money is really tight the smart organization moves ahead by simply not making mistakes." Unfortunately the SBU Administration and Board have a reputation for mistakes....both large and small...the seating decision being the most recent in an ongoing series.

First of all thank you Eileen!!! Hopefully they put at least half a thought into it and put all what looks like 10 seats now all together and in front of students. Senator: Are you admitting Tim's decision is a mistake? I am not sure about the overall answer to your question besides making sure we have strong leaders and challenging them when they are not strong. In this case though Tim can simply listen "loud and clear" to his alumni and give/sell for $5/game all 23 seats in front of students to the students or something similar. I know I have proposed what I feel is a much better solution to his "problem" and I am sure others have offered better only to get crickets from Tim. I think he has a great idea in reconfiguring RC as a cheap way to improve atmosphere, unfortunately his execution is terrible. He could for very little money transform the RC into something that would appease A-10, minimalize our liability, and make RC an even better environment than past few years if he gave it some thought. Unfortunately it looks like creativity is not currently a point of focus, just the old copy cat band-aid routine.

i can't speak for sneakers, '08, but i personally think it's way too soon to say the ad made a mistake...if/when it's proven to be a mistake (and i think it might take up to a full season to really determine what (if any) negative consequences came from this action), then i think that's the time to offer constructive suggestions on how to remedy/improve the situation...i want strong leaders for bonas like you do...i agree with you that challenges should be made when decisions aren't strong...all i'm saying is let's not challenge before we're certain that the decision is not strong...i love your passion for bonas...i share it and, hopefully, have passed it on to my daughters and, hopefully someday you''ll pass it on to your kids...let's just make sure we channel that energy so that all our efforts are well-thought out and enhance the school we love...
p.s. to eileen...from a bona dad to a bona mom...way to go!...and good luck to your son in his role as an ra...

Eileeen - your gesture is very much appreciated and shows again the great quality of the Bonas alumni base.
Unfortunately, your sacrifice should have been unnecessary if the new AD had paid attention to the chief constituencies of this great university. The heavy handed, clueless attempt to disadvantage our student fans is indicative of the larger problem which is in fact the very poor communications methods now in use. The arrogance displayed by the new AD and "his failure to communicate" and the adverse and demonstrative outrage that it produced is proof positive of the wrongheadedness of this decision.
Hopefully TK has learned a valuable lesson on our respect for tradition and loyalty at Bonas, but only time will tell.......

Mike Reilly '08 has a letter that was published in BV on 9/14/15, it summarizes the situation with TK to a tee. Good reading. See www.thebvnewspaper.com
