Webster-Schoreder's EMMITT HOLT, currently a sophomore has been dismissed from Indiana University's basketball team after receiving an alcohol citation, along with THOMAS BRYANT also receiving an alcohol citation but no suspension. This is HOLT's second public off-the-court incident. He was behind the wheel when then teammate DEVIN DAVIS was injured in a serious car accident Nov. 1.

Testing my memory on this kid......we offered him in 2014....he was a 2015 kid, but reclassified to 2014 as Indiana swooped in during the summer and offered him. Another story of a kid bending to the "bright lights" of a big BCS school, and filled the needs of a depleted IU roster. Very apparent that this kid was not emotionally mature enough to make the right decision and not learning by his first mistake.
First incident: "Indiana sophomore forward DEVIN DAVIS was injured in an accident with a car driven by teammate EMMITT HOLT early Saturday morning, according to a press release from the program, DAVIS is currently listed in serious condition. According to the release, DAVIS was struck by the car HOLT was driving just after exiting the vehicle. HOLT had a blood alcohol level of .0.025, according to the release. He was cited for illegal consumption and operating a vehicle with a BAC above 0.02."

Think you are correct about maturity level. In my opinion he deserves a second chance and should stay closer to home and put himself in a much smaller environment away from the temptations. Classic example of a student persuaded to jump instead of waiting and making a good decision. He is not a bad kid.

Emmitt is also a talented basketball player, who saw his playing time significantly increase during last 5 games of his freshman season. PT of his last 5 games 10, 13, 15, 25 and 6. The 6 minutes occurred in the NCAA Tournament where he had 4 fouls in only 6 minutes. espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/player/gamelog/_/id/3147674/emmitt-holt

I would happily take Emmitt Holt with that extra scholarship we have laying around.
To me, it doesn't seem like he deserved to be given the boot at Indiana. The car incident was found to not be his fault and his BAC was significantly lower than the legal limit. In the most recent offense, he was cited for underage possession of alcohol and is kicked off the team. He probably deserved a minor suspension but dismissal from the team is harsh.

corn....crean and the IU staff have been under fire as they have had numerous off the court behavioral issues over the last 3-4 years..the natives [read long time IU fans] are getting antsy again..remember they suffered through the Sampson debacle--harsh or not, holt's timing was terrible..on the surface, it seems like 7 out of 10 hoopers out of buffalo/Rochester areas would be better served signing with a school like SBU- the leap to a high end power 5 conference is a big one.

Agree with the above, but Emmitt as a freshman proved he can contribute on a Power 5 team, which is revealed by him getting 25 minutes of PT in his last Big Ten game.

I don't doubt that he contributed....I have been to a handful of IU's home games. The mandate at the p-5 schools is to win and win now, and if possible keep your players negative behaviour out of the press...if a kid messes up off the field or off the court and isn't a major stud...these schools have very little patience for that--as I mentioned..the mood in Bloomington is impatient, thus making young holt expendable--the p-5 schools are in the business of over recruiting to begin with...next man up !

Think they used the kid as a scapegoat! In that most recent incident with the bottle of vodka, Indiana star player and high level recruit was sitting in the front of the vehicle and is not mentioned. Seems like it was a team event, and yet this kid get's singled out.

Crean gave Bryant a spanking too, but no way it was going to be more than that. I also agree that Holt got a raw deal, but IU has been a disaster lately so unfortunately for him he was made an example of.

It was the 2nd year in a row he has had an alcohol related incident. I dont think he was a scapegoat or a victim. He made his own bed. Hopefully he gets his act together and can catch on and have a good career, wherever that is.

According to VERBALCOMMITS, there are already quite a few schools interested in EMMITT.

Hopefully he gets his act together and can catch on and have a good career, wherever that is. Sure, there were two alcohol-related incidents but when you look at how minor they were it tells a different story. The first incident, he had one beer and was not at fault in an accident. The second incident, he was in possession of a bottle of vodka (no consumption). I don't see how you get kicked off the team for that. He should have been disciplined internally and docked a few games for the ever-vague "violation of team rules." It seems like they only brought the hammer down because it was reported in the papers and IU has been under fire lately (as other posters alluded to).

Is there any chance that we end up with or are attempting to get Holt? Or is this going to be a multi-page thread in which we dissect a player, talking about how great he would be, and then trash him when he signs somewhere else?
