The RC is an absolutely "awesome" place to see big time D1 hoops. Especially up close. actually, even the worst seats are pretty darn good. You know what else is awesome? An AD working hard to improve that game day experience for everyone in the arena so that they will want to come back again and again. What else is awesome? Playing a home game in a large metro area without D1 sports only 2 hours from campus, exposing our hoops program and University to more potential fans, students, sponsors, etc etc. I just don't get the whining. Bob Lanier is not taking the UC court in a very large pair of Chucks anytime soon. Unless as some on this board would have you believe, that TK is planning on knocking down the RC, planting a corn field and then plowing it under and putting up a court. We have to try new avenues to better build revenue streams and create a stronger, wider reaching brand for the basketball program and University. Times change. Taking one game, with or without students out of the RC or adding a row of seats in front of the student section won't ruin all of our assets. Refusing to move forward will. For anyone that will not or cannot see that, post your address and I'll come over and wake you up by smacking you upside your head with my rolled up FAFSA forms. It is very rare to have a FAFSA paper form. You would be better off hitting them with the computer you used to fill out your form.

In my defense, I wasnt trying to say that games without the students are total downers. My point was the University uses this as an opportunity to market the Bonnies elsewhere without taking a game away from the students. The students for the most part are the heart and soul of the crowd. If that offends someone then too bad, its the truth. I was at the St Joes 2OT game and it was great. I have also been to games where it was like a morgue.

Playing at the Blue Cross arena in Rochester is a great idea! An out of the conference game. JUST NOT AND A-10 GAME ... So just because the students are on break they move the game there? " A game at the RC when the students are not there is not a tough environment to win in. " You are sooo right kcSBU03. When the students are gone the locals pack the student seating area and give their best ! And the Bonnie team responds with a lot more will to win for us locals that are cheering them on... HOGWASH !!! You cannot compare the RC with students to the RC without. Its night and day whether you want to admit it or not. Get real

I decided to take a look at the student breaks. I could only located the academic calendar for the last three seasons on the SBU website. The interesting thing is that the best attended game at the RC, in the last three years, was on a Saturday that started the first day of break.
Average attendance of games when students are on campus is 4,051 while average attendance when students are on break is 3,664. The two Rochester games in that period averaged 4,395.
The team's winning percentage was nearly identical for the two groups of games in the TC. The team went 8-5 while students were on break and 18-11 while students were on campus.

Funny how Martelli keeps avoiding the Students in the Reilly Center. Surely the greedy bankers at the Philly Federal Reserve had a dirty hand in this.

123Rob,
It is a bit weird that SJU always plays at Bonaventure when students are on break. I'd like to know when the last time the Hawks played in the RC when students were in session. Might not be the Philly Reserve, but I think old Phil might get a little bit of preferential treatment...

Looked it up. SJU has played Bonaventure at the RC twice with students in session since 2003-2004 season. One was during the week and one was a weekend. And I'm not sure that the 2006-2007 game was while students were on campus...

Thanks. I figured there was a reason it stuck out. I wonder how many students stuck around for the game since it was the first day of break. I am sure a lot of alumni came to town that otherwise wouldn't have attended the game.

I would have been there if I had more than 3 days notice the ceremony was happening. THIS was something to complain about, more so than other things.
