Off the topic a bit. Al Annunziata Sr. told me that although the tap said "Kohler" it indeed was not the fine Erie lager but whatever beer his distributor could provide most cheaply that week. Nobody would complain that they weren't served a Kohler.

Now that is truly disheartening - the man who the Yearbook for the Class of '73 was dedicated to (much to the utter dismay of the Administration) would misrepresent the libation he would serve the stalwart denizens of his illustreous emporium in the heart of Allegany Village, very near to the equally maligned Women's Temperance Fountian! Such dismay!

My bad on sp. Koehler Not a better guide into the social skill of being a barfly than Al. Taught me how to elbow up with my uncles. The Skeller lagged in that regard. No barstools.

Here's an idea - only pour Iron City or Duke or the famous Kohler Collar from Club 17 days, nobody today would drink those three staples of beers from back then! and don't forget jenny cream ale...the gas emanating from dev after a night of drinking those suckers would make the ivy on the walls there curl...

Well, never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that I would even hesitate in saying yes to alcohol sales in the RC. But I am. There is no moral objection or fear of unruly crowds. If you are going to drink before, during or after a game then you are going to drink, before, during or after a game one way or another. Perhaps the suites are under used and certainly beer and wine concession would bring in much needed revenue. But can we take away a couple grand per game in suite rentals? Would the sales cannibalize BAF donations that get fans into the HoF room where there are alcohol sales? How much more would general alcohol sales be what are already made in the HoF room? I wonder if after factoring those ideas in if it would be worth it. Maybe the focus ought to be in making each game more of an event. Drawing fans in earlier and staying later-especially for weekend games. The 80s weekend crew brings the bus load to the skellar pregame. To me this needs to happen more. Bus fans in from further away. Sometimes I hesitate to jump in the car and drive down from Rochester on a Wednesday night in Feb. But a bus excursion with a stop at the skellar sounds appealing! How about inviting youth (pre-8th grade) baseball or soccer teams in for Saturday games. Build a group ticket price for a clinic in Richter given by our coaches/athletes, a voucher for concession stand, game ticket and a program? Or if all else fails, just make sure the hot dogs are bigger than the bun.

I think selling beer would be a great idea. The revenue is much needed.........People in the reds might actually get out of their seats once in awhile.

Maybe we could add strippers and ask for a special exemption from the smoking laws? This is a terrible idea. I have no problem with alcohol and I became friends with Joe Sgro "your friendly beer distributor" during my Time at SBU. We need families to come to Bona games. If it turns into a bunch of drunks everywhere during the game that is not good.
On the other hand while I know the skellar is close by but what if they served beer in the Fast break room after the game? I think if people/alumni had a place to meet and second guess Schmidt that might be a money maker. You could be open for two hours after game time. Maybe get sponsors for the after game hospitality? Then those who don't want to be subjected to obnoxious drunks during the game wouldn't be. Those who wanted a place to meet post game would have a place. Just a thought.

I fail to understand why there is the assumption from some posters that just because they will serve alcohol during the 2 hour game they will automatically have a problem with obnoxious drunks, uncontrollable underagers and as one poster put it, "ambulance visits."
talk about worst case scenario. its laughable to me. 99% of the people at the game aren't going to turn into falling over drunk, obnoxious fools that are so drunk they need to be taking out on an ambulance just because they serve beer during the game. haha. maybe we should stop serving hot dogs because people might choke and they'll be having to do the heimlich manuever all game long!
if there are unruly fans they will be escorted out by security. That's what we pay those guys for- not to stand there and stare down our students like the gestapo anyway. My guess is that the atmosphere probably wouldn't be much different at all... It wouldn't be any different than the skeller where they follow the laws of NYS, serve only those of age, and shocker, I know, there isn't a problem with obnoxious hooligans burning the place down!

I've been to numerous games at the Dayton arena, among other that served alcohol, never saw a problem (we're talking college basketball, not football). In fact the only memorable episode that I can recall over the years was a while back when a busload of students from Bonaventure pulled up right out in from the Palumbo Center for a game with the Dukes. They literally rolled out of the bus onto the sidewalk. I don't think they were even permitted to go in for the game.
