Nelson sure has gotten off to a good start as a frosh playing 24 mpg for a coach that has a high bar of expectation before playing a freshman major mins.
He is #1 on the team shooting treys at .462 and many of them are with defenders in his grill. Jay is #2 at a very .429.
Nelson is 3rd on the team from the field at .467, scoring 8ppg. Playing the point, when we put a 3 guard offense on the floor, his 3.7 A/To ratio is one to salivate over.
He has chosen his shots wisely and has yet to really attack the rim as he gets the feel of this level of play. Has only 4 FTs in 3 games & has made them all.

As you've heard me say - if a kid can play, he's gonna play! Haven't known many coaches who will leave a kid on the bench 'cause he's a 18-19 yr old frosh, when he's better than the other guys! This ain't rocket science!

Well, last night we went a long way toward earning "players of the week" for 2 bonnies. Posley needs a good game on Saturday to earn his first Player of the Week (POW), and if Derrick can have another good game he could be in the running for Rookie of the Week (ROW). There is not an award for Coach of the Week, but the job that Mark did last night was truly outstanding: substitutions, changing defenses, timely timeouts to change momentum, playing without Dion for most of the 1st half, I believe he should be COW for the winning and the udder great work in milking the most out of the freshman last night.
