Taqqee played 17 minutes in the 1st half, and a limited 8 minutes in the 2nd due to his injury. Hofstra's Green played 18 minutes in the 1st half, going 1-5 from the field, scoring 3 points with 4 assists. Hofstra went 11-30 (36.7%) and scored 37 points. In the second, Green played 20 minutes and scored 18 points, going 5-10 from the field with 5 assists. Hofstra scored 52 points, going 16-30 from the field (53.3%). We don't need points from Taqqee. We need him to limit the offense from the other team. He's generally at the bottom of the pile too.....I don't know how many jump balls he was involved with yesterday.....a few....and he does do the " small" things that help teams win, tipping passes, etc. Not everybody can go out there and score 20. We also need guys doing the dirty work.......

Also, Coach Schmidt screwed up by recruiting Stockard. He should have KNOWN he would get hurt, because good coaches just know these things. Maybe they should have given Stockard a full body bone scan during the recruiting visit to look for weakness in his bone structure. Too bad we aren't Kentucky, who has the luxury of being able to over recruit at every position. Nice try coach - you ignore the 13th ride Schmidt did not use because he could not fill it...injuries happen...its one of the reasons we get 13 rides when only 5 play at a time. Schmidt can coach x's and o's and kids play hard.....but x's & o's are not more important than the jimmys and the joes. The recruiting inefficiencies helped cause our short bench which in turn will prevent us from a post season - again ! You are what your record is 1 for 9 years in post season - that's due mainly to the poor recruiting - not his game strategy etcc. Tell me now what would have been the best thing to do for this year's team with that 13th ride? Keep in mind - Derrick Wood got cleared to play late August - we came within a whisker of not having him either and having 2 open rides. An A10 level program that wishes to win simply has to operate its recruiting at a better level than that. And this has nothing to do with lack of resources or facilities or location.

IDRIS is perhaps not a scorer but at this point in time he understands the offensive and defensive schemes of the staff better than KAPUTO does at this time.

I haven't even read the above posts, so mine may be redundant. Just want to point out that Idris is not expected to shoot much, however Kenpom gives him a quite respectable offensive rating based on his performance in plays where he is involved. Bona's biggest offensive disappointment so far is someone else, whom I will not name as I don't like to kvetch about our guys.

I am going to make this really simple. Our Offensive Efficiency is 77th in the nation, our Defensive Efficiency is 176th in the nation. We are ripping our small forward, who is our best perimeter defender, because he doesn't score. His Offensive Efficiency 110.9 which is solid. His role on this team isn't to score. He is supposed to play defense, and do all the little things which he is doing. Did we all of a sudden forget he got a huge rebound at the end of the Canisius game? In the grand scheme of things he wouldn't be playing this many minutes, but with Stockard out he has too. Our problem isn't offense it is defense. Defense lost us the game yesterday because our guards couldn't guard their guards, especially when TAQQEE got injured. I am done ranting now.

His missed front end of the 1 and 1 was nearly a crusher, and seeing him dribbling with his left hand in the last possession nearly gave me a heart attack, but he made the correct pass effectively, plus pulled a couple key boards down the stretch and contributed to some critical stops when we stopped scoring in the lasrpt six mins., so almost all is forgiven Idris. but please make those free throws next time!

I believe he also had a couple very timely baskets midway through the 2nd half.

The last thing this team needs is another guy on the court who thinks offense first and defense second. The gaping hole left by YN as the defender of the cylinder is more evident every game. Idris brings his lunch pail to the court and focuses on D. How bout some of the other guy's step up with the same attitude. Posley as one example is a great scorer but doesn't give the same effort on the defensive end. The best teams play both sides of the ball. Let's hope this is a work in progress or we will get pounded once the A10 starts in a month. The team is struggling, particularly when it comes to closing games out.

I get very annoyed when every year some on this board pick out a player to rail on. This year it is Idris. If you cant see what he brings to the table then you dont know anything about basketball and should probably stop talking. He is not a great offensive player, yet but his man defense is the best on our team. He hustles and fills the stat sheet. We have guys that can score but few who can defend so he has a spot with me any day.
