the don mcClean incident is one of my more memorable moments at SBU. Spring weekend..softball tournament... a rockin' college band and then the ultimate buzz killer.. don mcClean. luckily he got off the stage quickly and the party continued. The head line in the next issue of the bonaventue was "WHAT A BUZZ" Perfect description - I kept saying who scheduled him. That first band was cranking, and everybody was primed...........He should have been scheduled for a coffee house.........And, the one song that would really rock the place - he bolts during the middle of it!!

What about Ani DiFranco. Boy did she suck. Did nothing but whine about the ROTC and their guns for her entire set. Then she said she wanted to take all her friends and move to Canada. That's when I walked out. Her music was/is also terrible.

I worked at SAC in the early '70's and I was in charge of the concerts on campus. Bob Seger played @ SBU in the spring of '73. I know, I went to McDonalds with him after the show! It was after the Bob Seger Sound System had broken up and a year before he started The Silver Band. This was before he hit it big nationally with Night Moves.

Wow - in regards to the Boss concert. I was so drunk that I do not remember half the songs that are listed above. My best story for the concert. Turk and I were in charge of getting tickets for a lot of returning alumni. Were not going to camp out in front of RC for days to get tickets. Ended up hearing that the Allegheny Record store had a package of tickets. Right near the Club 17. Went down there, second person in line, about 1/2 hour before the store opened. Got great tickets in the first set of bleachers right next to the stage - and only waited a half hour to get them. Crazy how tickets used to be sold.

Invite Bob back to town...
My favorite memory of was driving to Bonaventure for the first time back in 1998, or 97 and Jacob Dylan (Bob's son) had a hit song with the Wallflowers. As I finally pulled into Allegany I saw the town packed like I have never seen before. I seriously had to come to a crawl while driving through town as to not hit people crossing the street.
Even my mother was shocked to see such a small town in the Southern Tier with so many people out in the street.
We checked into the DeSoto Motel to get some sleep. First, thing the next morning on my tour of campus in a fresh fog my mother asked the tour guide what was going on last night that town was so busy?
The reply "Bon Dylan just played Bonaventure"... really wish I could have seen that show, but I will never forget seeing Allegany with that many people.

I saw robin Williams in '86!! Does anyone else rememeber the 15 min he did on Breakfast cereals? I believe he asked the audience what topic we would like to talk about and off he went! He was a true improv genius!! For the life of me I can not remember anything else from that show.
Anybody else remember?

I'm still trying to bridge the gap between Bob Seger playing one concert here in the 70s and featuring Olean and Allegany in the lyrics of his title track in 2015.
