Just heard that Duquesne forward Stuard Baldanado has been suspended from both the team and the university. Stuard was to be a major player in the Duquesne return to greatness. Duquesne and the A-10 will miss him. Hope he gets himself out of trouble. Duquesne website was very vague about what the problem was.

Rumor has it that he was playing on 9 ft. baskets or that he was involved somehow in the problems that the latest space shuttle mission had.

Duquesne U. basketball player suspended Wednesday, September 05, 2007 By Moustafa Ayad, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Duquesne University junior power forward Stuard Baldonado, who was one of five basketball players shot last year, was suspended from the school yesterday after his arrest Friday on drug charges.
Mr. Baldonado, 22, who did not play last weekend in Toronto because of academics and a long rehabilitation for bullet wounds in the left elbow and lower back, was charged with criminal conspiracy involving the manufacture, delivery or possession of a controlled substance.
According to a police report, Mr. Baldonado was with another group of men who were being observed by Pittsburgh police near the corner of Van Braam Street and Forbes Avenue around 6:30 p.m. Friday.
Police said Mr. Baldonado acted as a lookout while another man crossed the street and handled a drug transaction. Police said the unidentified man then crossed back over to where Mr. Baldonado was standing and the two got into a taxi.
Officer Paul Roetter, with the city's Special Response Unit, then pulled the taxi over to search Mr. Baldonado and the other individual. Officer Roetter found two baggies of marijuana and two cell phones on the man with Mr. Baldonado.
Police did not find any drugs on Mr. Baldonado, but because he was observed watching the street as the individual with him performed a drug transaction and then got into the same car, Mr. Baldonado was charged with conspiracy, police said.
Mr. Baldonado was released on his own recognizance.
Duquesne basketball coach Ron Everhart said he suspended Mr. Baldonado indefinitely from the team after being informed that Mr. Baldonado had been suspended by the university.
"Our basketball players are held to the same standard of accountability as the general student population," said Mr. Everhart. "We fully expect them to adhere to university policies and procedures at all times."
Mr. Baldonado was one of five Duquesne University students shot Sept. 17 after an on-campus dance. He was shot in the arm and the bullet severed an artery and then traveled through his back, just missing his spine.

Stuard did not play in Duquesne's games this past weekend in Canada. Duquesne did pretty well without him, winning a doubleheader on Sunday and scoreing 212 points.

You don't get a free education so you can spend your money on drugs. I say "Great Job" to the police! I'm sick of the thugs in college and professional sports. GET A REAL JOB NOW!!!!

It's just a little weed, which Baldonado didn't even have in his possession. It's not like he was dealing crack or heroine or murdering dogs.

b4life, your statement that "it's just a little weed" could be the stupidest comment that I've ever seen anyone post on this board (and there have been some stupid posts in the past).
The fact remains that Mr. Baldanado broke the law. Also you're also losing sight of the fact that, according to the article above, Mr. Baldanado appears to have been in the process of selling a controlled substance. Is that the type of student/athlete that Duquense, or any institution of higher learning, should be enrolling? I certainly hope not.
I am disgusted by the concept that athletes are untouchable because they can "play the game". I commend Duquense for there swift and stern action toward this criminal act.

Whoa whoa whoa, where does it say anything about Baldanado selling a controlled substance? He may have been a part of buying a controlled substance, but there is no indication he is selling.

Well that is one thing but when you say according "according to the article above, Mr. Baldanado appears to have been in the process of selling a controlled substance" and there is nothing in the article above about selling it, you can expect people to question you.

Now for part two of the discussion.
As I stated above, I think the school acted responsibly in suspending Mr. Baldanado for his role in this illegal activity. That being said I wonder if Mr. Baldanado's lawsuit against the University, which alledges that the University failed to provide him with adequite security at the dance, had any bearing on the school's decision to suspend him.

The article that was posted above said "two baggies of marijuana" to me that sounded like a a couple of dime bags. And nowhere in the 'the article above' does it say he was in the process of selling the drugs. I did not see the foxsports article until sbu 87 posted it. Two baggies and a half- pound sound alot different don't they. My bad on that one.
