Lost by 9. Wright State is a tough team. There were some things we could have done better but overall I didn't think we played that bad. not that bad? are you kidding me? another one witht he mentality of SOL. We played awful... absolutly awful. Theres no excuse for it. The off ball defense was terrible. Awful penetration on offense. Terrible shot selection. Its sickening to see them playt his bad when we have so much potential There is no excuse for it...I got one...they are more talented then we are its not always a case of our players not trying hard. While a lot of time/all of the time with Sol it felt like that. For now we are going to have to accept that as weak as our OOC schedule is, some of those teams may be more talented then us, as sad as that is to say.

On the positive side I learned that Wright State is in the Dayton area and not in Michigan; And I also now know one team in the Horizon League...When is the second Binghamton game?

This team isn't going to do a complete 180 over night. It is going to take time. And as I said, there are things we could do better, but I'm confident we'll continue to imporove as the season goes on.

Not the team. I agree, that attitude by fans is garbage. As far as teams being more talented than us, that may be true, but we continue to beat ourselves. Our defense keeps us in games, and we follow it up with poor shot selection, bad turnovers and a flat out non-existent transition game. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Schmidt is keeping us in these games, we are simply not executing well enough to win them.

You're right hamrucker. The question is how can the team better execute? Also, we need to be more consistent. Nothing annoys me more than when they play great in one game and not so good in another. Seems to be an ongoing trend with this team. I'm a little worried about the Binghamton game, especially because they beat GW.

Very nice game by Haley tonight. His season is starting to shape up like Mike Lee's freshman year. He is still very raw, but his first half performance was definitely promising.
The guard play is just not there. Relph may know what he wants to do, but he just doesn't have the physical tools to do it. I am not sure Z actually understands the game well enough to know what he should be doing for this team. Eleby is just too green.
The combination of those three guards is just not going to win a lot of games this year.

I know our bench isn't very deep, but it seems like the common denominator in our last few games is fatigue at the end of the game. I would like to see more of Morgan or maybe Eleby in the second half.

I think at some point we have to face the writing on the wall: we just don't have the horses, and a new coach with an undermanned bunch of new, young faces isn't going to go on a miracle run like Duquesne tried last year. Like the Dukes were, we're faced with a numbers game, and with guys lurking around the perimeter on offense and getting caught flat-footed on defense, it's starting to catch up to us.
We started the year with 10 players; Cook's situation and Taylor's departure made eight. Eleby and Morgan appear too raw to expect much, so essentially we're playing with six guys. That six includes a PG who, being kind, was on the slow side before his chronic foot injury acted up and a PF who's starting to slow down and is soon going to be asked to go 38 minutes with the Achara's, Dunston's, and Daniels's of the A-10 world. Sure, Benson could step up, Z could wake up, and Haley may continue his progress in league play, but if that's where our fate rests, we better buckle up.
The worst part of the numbers game is the games we've already lost - NU, EMU, HU, WSU - in which having a warm, A-10 replacement-level body could have given us the edge we needed to make it a win. I'm not talking about having an AJ Hawkins to get to the rack or take the big shot, traits this team lacks. I mean any average Diggs to run an offense for 10 minutes a night or a Dunston to come off the bench and defend for five. Time will tell if someone can step up, but as things stand now, with out bench providing virtually nothing, we simply don't have enough players. It's called rebuilding.

Sounds like a common theme many of us talked about before the season started. With little experience on this team we were almost assured we would see ups and downs. That being said, at least this team is competing. The last two games we would have lost by 30 in previous years. These fine young men are at least working hard.

The thing that really kills me about these guys is that it seems like we always get ourselves into a situacion where we get a stop and have a possesion where we have a chance to: make it a one or two possesion game, tie the game or in some instances take the lead. Hell, we've even been in situacions where we've had the chance to extend leads and put heavy pressure on a team early (Niagara). However, the result seems to always be the same (besides the Albany game). We miss a shot on a bad look or turn the ball over, we then proceed to allow consecutive baskets, and dig ourselves into a deeper hole or let the other team back in the game. It's getting really old, tonight when they tore of six straight points after we pulled it to within two i almost punched a hole through my computer screen. I don't expect our guys to make big plays all the time, but it would be nice if we could make a run when we get into one of these situacions instead of playing ourselves out of the game, like we did tonight.

I agree with fatigue and little depth.

I would like to see the younger guys in a bit more early, then get the older guys in later with fresh legs and the maturity!
