Eleby had the chance to be the hero he actually had the perfect shot, but apparently he can't use his right hand.

Eleby should transfer. He is useless. Utterly useless

Making the A-10 play-off's is a major stretch of the imagination at this point.

Eleby would fit in well at a D-3 school around Philly, no offense but he's an absolute liability in clutch situations at the point

he is not just a liability at crunch time. He is a liability for the whole game. I used to stick up for him. I think everyone has given him the chance this year. When Blackburn is back, Eleby needs some major bench time. He couldn't even play d tonight. He would run at Fontan like he was going to get an easy steal, then just stand there and foul him. Its like watching jr high ball sometimes.

And it would open up a much needed extra scholarship.

Honestly, I hope someone in Philly is talking to calvin Newell right now and telling him he is a 4 year starter on an A10 team right now. Buy this kid a car if we have to (I don't really think anyone should do that if we are being monitored) We need a pg now.

Anyone actually at the game? I too questioned Schmidt when he took Nicholson and thomas out with about 10 to play and trailing by 4. In come Benson and Carter ... and lo and behold the Bonnies turn a 4-point deficit into a four-point lead. thanks in large part to the 5 points Carter scored and their presence in the zone that Schmidt switched to that frustrated the hell out of Fordham for the better part of sixc minutes until Fontan start penetrating and throwing up a bunch of surreal stuff in the lane that all seemed to go in.
Nicholson came back in with 3 to go and the Bonnies never scored again. You want to blame Eleby for missing a bunny after a great move to the hoop, fine. You HAVE to make that shot. No ifs or buts. You can even lay some heat on Schmidt for the team not coming out better.
But the bottom line is, for all the complaining about Blackburn, they miss him terribly. Eleby is an energy, slashing, 15-minutes off-the-bench guy. He's not a starting A-10 point guard. You can't survive in this leage without one.

Yes Carter scored off of great assists and some times finished and sometimes made the foul shot. Who hear dosent think those same assists would not have been dunks +1 with Andrew in the game...

Schmidt's job is to put the team in a position to win, he did that tonight. They just didn't execute. Everyone will point to the Eleby layup and clearly so, but there were plenty of other bad decisions made tonight. Coach can only do so much, but ultimately the players have to perform.

I swore I wouldn't check this message board for a week because it can get so out of hand after losses, but here I am.
I agree with parts of this thread.
Regarding Eleby:I too used to be supportive of Eleby, but this is the time in his career where he either becomes a player or he doesn't. With Blackburn out, this was his time to shine, and he more or less failed on that missed layup and poor defense throughout tonight. I am through with Eleby this season and until he comes back to campus next summer with a jump shot and the foot speed of an average A-10 point guard.
Regarding the Grease/Nicholson sub out: I'll admit that during the game I didn't think it was a TERRIBLE idea. Defensively we weren't getting beat inside, but rather on long, mid-range jumpers and transition points. And sure, it was a fine substitution with me, we were up 5, Carter filled in well, we should give these two a 2-3 minute breather for the final stretch. However, those 2-3 minutes grew to 6-7 minutes, and all of a sudden we're down for the game. Nicholson was an absolute work horse in the paint in the 2nd half and with one of Fordham's bigs fouled out he should have been touching the ball every time down the floor.

I don't care what anyone says or what excuses are thrown out there, but there is just NO REASON why Andrew Nicholson and Grease Thomas shouldn't have been in that game down the stretch. Fordham had NOBODY to guard either player. This coaching move would have been the equivalent of Fordham's coach deciding to sit Jio Fontan from the 8-minute mark until the 2-minute mark. INEXCUSABLE ON ALL LEVELS.

Clubhouse: you're dead wrong. When your two horses sit for 5-6 minutes down the stretch and there's ZERO offense on the court, the team IS NOT positioned to win

Homersbu: Nicholson came back in w/ 2:14 to go and what about Mo (despite his double/double) he gets back in w/40 seconds. Dont give me Eleby crap...He played the point and had no points, 5 to's, and TWO assists and gets the ball w/20 seconds left, passes to no one, and goes week to the hoop. HE's A BUST.....he's not even a "15 minute off the bench player" he's a LIABIULITY! How many chances we going to give him. Coach gets an F.
