He sounds talented, but is he pigeon-toed?

Newell's 14-12 Strath Haven squad made an incredible run in the PA District Playoffs and are the 2nd seed from district 1. Strath Haven drew 19-6 Franklin Learning Center in the first round of the PIAA state playoffs this week. For those of you who don't recall, FLC is the school that produced Eleby. The game is Friday, 3/6 at 6:30 at South Philadelphia HS if anyone is in the area.

The reason for the lack of offer at this time is the staff believes they have located a PG who is very pigeon towed, where Calvin is only slightly pigeon towed. The staff is waiting for a response from the first guard before offering. As they saying goes, "If he talks like a duck, and he walks like a duck, he might not be the best guard available"

Newell and Strath Haven went on to beat Franklin Learning Center (article below), and then fall in the next round, ending Calvin's season. Does anybody have any new recruiting info on this player? Signing A 4 year point guard out of highschool who averaged 30 ppg seems right up our ally.
Franklin Learning Center falls to Strath Haven in PIAA playoffs By TED SILARY Philadelphia Daily News

On a winter day that felt more like springtime, Yard work wasn't enough.
Denzel Yard showed his usual will, but this time there wasn't a way.
Strath Haven 76, Franklin Learning Center 66. That was the final score last night at Southern High in the first game of a Class AAA first-round doubleheader, and that meant Yard's wonderful senior season was over.
Shortly afterward, he took the opportunity to explain a postgame move that, honestly, gave off bad vibrations.
As the final seconds melted away, Yard walked toward FLC's bench and exchanged a heartfelt hug with first-year coach Will Wright. And then he kept walking. And walking. Across the court. Out the door. Down the steps to the locker room.
He didn't shake hands with Strath Haven's players. Didn't share one last moment, at least in public, with his teammates.
"I didn't mean any disrespect to anyone," he said, quietly. "I hope their fans and players didn't take it that way. I just felt the game was handled unfairly [by the referees] and that it would just be better if I left the gym."
Yard, a senior point guard bound for Siena, finished with 21 points, four assists, three steals and a team-high eight rebounds.
Tellingly, all four of his help-a-teammates came in a 23-23 first quarter. By the second half, the other Bobcats mostly were missing first shots and even Yard failed to hit his final three attempts.
It was probably a negative, in retrospect, that everyone shot so well last Saturday against Ss. Neumann-Goretti in an 80-78 loss for the Class AAA City Title. The other Bobcats' confidence was undoubtedly high. That mind-set proved to be unfounded.
Hey, it happens.
"They hit me with a box-and-one or they shadowed me out of a 3-2," Yard said. "I didn't want to force. I wanted to play my normal game and take good shots while also finding my teammates. The way they'd been shooting lately, I thought I could depend on them.
"But that's how basketball is. Sometimes you shoot nice. Sometimes you don't."
The game's first few minutes were, in a word, amazing.
The teams combined to hit the first seven shots, back and forth, back and forth, and the last of those perfect launches made it 11-8, FLC.
Deep down, Yard wasn't happy.
"If we'd shown the same intensity in the first quarter that we showed later on, we would have been fine," he said. "I don't think we were overlooking them. We knew they had the one great player and played smart and hard all around him."
The "one great player" reference was to senior wing guard Calvin Newell. He poured in 11 first-quarter points en route to 32 and showed two distinct styles. In the first half, he mostly freed himself for picturesque, power-up jumpers. He mostly penetrated over the final 16 minutes and his body control enabled him to get to the line for 14 attempts.
Overall, he was 9-for-15 from the floor (three treys) and 11-for-16 at the line.
The game's biggest sequence, and FLC's worst, occurred with 5 minutes remaining in the third quarter. As Newell tried a layup, Nasir Jones nearly decapitated him. Whether he intended to pound him, who knows? It didn't look good, though, and an intentional foul was called.
Newell hit both free throws, then Avatar Jones drained a three-pointer off a snappy inbound pass from Dan Morris, making it 49-39.
Thanks in part to follows, Nasir Jones matched Yard with 21 points. Basir Fulmore managed 11. They added seven and six rebounds, respectively, while Jamil Drake posted three steals. Yard finished with 1,031 career points.
For Yard, it's on to Siena.
"Fresh start," he said. "I'll fight for a spot and try to contribute that first year as much as I can. I'm proud of everyone, but especially the seniors. We had a great ride. Most people didn't even think we'd be a factor."
The Bobcats were, by any measure, thanks to Denzel Yard. *

Newell has consistently turned in high scoring games ending his career with over 1300 points. Mark knows what we need & the search is not limited to Newell.

Can we please sign this kid. At the moment, we have bigger fish to fry than Newell. If we whiff on our main target(s), we'll offer Newell.

O. Maxwell - a fine young man. To fill the roster for next season does it have to be a walk on player?
