Niagara lost to Siena last night 77-70. For those of us old time fans who hate Niagara and Canisius it was good news. Now if only Syr-excuse would get dumped in their first post-season tournament game, life would be good.
Good luck to the Bonnies in AC.

Congrat's to Bona's sister school, the Siena Saints.

I have watched a lot of CBB this year and I will be one of few people who think this but Niagara deserves an at-large bid. They are a very good team, almost came back and beat Siena last night. I also think the A-10 deserves three teams, with a 8th ranked RPI and if Rhode Island can go far into the tourney, they should get a nod.

I think Niagara deserves a bid. I'd rather see a team that's 2-3 vs the top 50 than someone like South Carolina (1-5), Florida (1-5), Georgetown (4-8), Wisconsin (4-9), West Virginia (3-7). Miami FL (2-7). I mean, I already know those teams can't compete with the big boys for a championship. Let's see what Niagara, Siena, St. Mary's, and Illinois State can do.

You know those bids are reserved for the 5th and 6th place teams in the Big 10, SEC, etc.

No way the SEC gets 6 teams in, i'd bet 4 or less get in.
Its going to be gross how many teams get in from the Big 10. I dont think they deserve all the teams they will get. A lot of projections are giving them 7-8, though that number will go down when the Bonnies win the A-10 tourney and take one of their bids.
They could open the tournament to 340 teams and I still wouldn't want Niagara in the tourney. They blow.

The Big East will also likely get 5-6 and the Big 10 will probably get 8 (maybe too many, but theyve earned it). Hopefully with the Bonnies, the A10 will get 3 in.

I'm with you, Cassian, in saying that Niagara deserves an at large. There are 6 teams in division I basketball that have more wins than them, albeit levels of competition vary and a fair number of teams (which will most likely be in the tournament) have the same amount (26). It looked like their double overtime game from the night before had an impact on their game vs. Siena, particularly later in the second half. Agree with jpschmack- I'd much rather see Niagara make it than a mid level team from a power conference.
If the SEC gets 6 teams in the tourny, something is wrong. That conference is unusually weak this year and that should open the door for a few teams from some other conferences.
At the very least, the Big East is getting 6 teams. There are currently 6 teams in the top 25! They will most likely get more bids than any other conference this year, as it's hard not to acknowledge the fact that it's been the most competitive.

Count me in as another who'd be happy to see Niagara in. They're a good team and fun to watch.Losing to Siena on Siena's home court was not much of a disqualifier; It would be more interesting to have a wny team in the tournament I think having 8 or 9 big ten teams defeats the spirit of the tournament .Ditto the sec ,the acc the swc ,the pac ten etc.

The SEC actually does have a really good chance at getting 6 teams in. BWAH HA HA HA HA HA. They're more likely to get two than six. Tennessee and LSU are locks (and LSU just because they haven't lost many bad games. I still don't see how their resume is better than Dayton's or even Niagara's!). The SEC bubble teams have ONE good win outside of conference. The guy at CollegeRPI.com had a nice stat yesterday. He said the SEC's conference RPI this season is the worst in the history of major conferences since he started keeping numbers in 1998. There's just no way the SEC gets six. Tennessee and LSU are in. Florida and South Carolina are in the last four in/out group right now. Kentucky and Auburn are on the outside looking in. and Ole Miss/Miss State/Vandy are in NIT territory. And the bracket sets up with elimination games. South Carolina vs (Mississippi St/Georgia) LSU vs (Kentucky/Mississippi) Auburn vs (Florida/Arkansas) Tennessee vs (Vanderbilt/Alabama) Florida vs Auburn? The loser ain't making the field of 65. South Carolina and Kentucky in the semis? The loser ain't making it. They can get four, but their only chance at five would be Auburn over South Carolina in the final. And that'd only be five (Auburn, Florida, LSU, Tenn, USC) They have seven locks: UConn, Pitt, Louisville, Nova, Marquette, Syracuse, West Virginia. Providence is their last bubble team left now that UC and Georgetown lost. They can make it if they make the semis. Notre Dame would need a deeeeep run, probably to the finals. They shouldn't get that many. Michigan State, Illinois are really good locks. Purdue is a lock for some reason (even though they are 1-7 vs the top 25), Ohio State and Minnesota are sitting pretty. Michigan, Wisconsin, Penn State, Northwestern need to make noise this weekend. But someone's gotta lose: Minnesota can still get in with a loss to Northwestern, but Northwestern is toast if they lose in the first round. A Wisconsin win over Ohio State probably locks up a bid for them. A Michigan win over Iowa probably locks up a bid for them, as long as there's not too many upsets across the nation. Penn State may need to beat Purdue in the quarters to get in (Lose to Indiana, and they're toast). The A-10s is going to get three unless it's UD/Xavier in the final. The Xavier AD is on the committee. if URI or Temple make the final, he'll push real hard for a third team.
