We may not be a front-runner, but the aspect of us picking up a Big East- caliber guard to take charge would be a huge boost to our ability to recruit and compete. I think picking up Chandler would go far in turning the corner in this program's recent history.

I think picking up Chandler would go far in turning the corner in this program's recent history. First of all, why are we not a front runner? That article is dated March 4, 2009--almost a month ago. Whether you choose to believe his presence on campus this past weekend or not, SBU is involved. As for the "Big East-caliber guard" side of things, I just don't see why comments like this need to be made. What does this even mean? "Big East-caliber"? Is Andrew Nicholson a "Big East-caliber" center? Is he good enough? Is he elite enough? Chandler averaged 12 and seven points per game, respectively, in his freshman and sophomore years for a team that finished at the bottom of the league (and a team this Bona program beat on the road). Chandler's presence on a Big East roster does not necessarily make him a prettier option to SBU than four-year players like Sean Johnson or Anali Okoloji. All high school rankings aside, one might ask if Bona can do better at this stage of the game. He might turn out to be a great player. Who knows? If we sign him, great... but I believe there are better options.

Bonnies will never be able to compete with BCS schools for the top 125 players in the nation, but they can sign former top 125 players who are over recruited and unhappy with their playing time. If Bonnies are to compete with Xavier they need to sign players like Mario Boggans (without the baggage), Tyler Relph and Corey Chandler.
Agree with mrrowdy in the other thread. The idea of Andrew and Corey playing their last 2 years together sounds great. I've got my fingers crossed and hoping it is the same long shot that we gave to signing Jonathan Hall.

I'm kind of confused what your post is really saying, but I know as well as you that he visited here and is considering us, but I doubt that we're his only option. A Big East-caliber guard is a guard that has the ability to play in arguably the best conference in the nation. No need to use sour grapes by thinking we have better options; we just might have better options but I would gladly take him on to our roster. And yes, Andrew is a Big East-caliber center. Sheesh, I don't know what happens to provoke such vitriolic replies, but this board sure has enough of them. You'd make it think I was dissing the team. I was only saying that it's great to be in the running and he appears to be a very capable player.

Listen to me now and hear me later girly boys: COREY CHANDLER will not attend SBU. A better fit to the SBU family is in the offering. A two point offense is in next years game plan, almost a West Coast type of run and gun with the points leading the charging wing players slashing in and going baseline. Next seasons team and play book will attempt to use the 5 in 5 out rotation. GO BROWN INDIANS !!!

room109: I think Duquesne used that offense last year. They called it their 1040-10 players, 40 minutes. It is a high octane offense. Unfortunately, Duquesne did not play defense and many games turned out to be high scoring losses. It's just like VMI tis year.

When it was posted Jake was being recruited by the Bonnies, 109 made the following comment. I'm going to use the " N " word, NEVER in the million years. As it was with Jake it is wrong of you to make such bold statements. Corey is a top 100 ranked player from the following recruiting services: Rivals (62), Hoop Scoop (55), Sporting News (77), Scout (89). Coming out of high school Corey was a big time talent and he followed it up making the All Big East Rookie team. Can assure you the Bonnies are not recruiting a player with more impressive press clippings than Corey Chandler. www.scarletknights.com/basketball-men/roster/roster-detail.asp?ID=3576

Aaa ya know on second thought, isn't Jake ( a future SBU star player ) a Red shirt walk-on, whom out of the kindness of his own heart is paying for his tuition, and is not a schlorship member of the team yet?

I believe you said they would never recruit him, which they clearly did.

Aaa ya know on second thought, isn't Jake ( a future SBU star player ) a Red shirt walk-on, whom out of the kindness of his own heart is paying for his tuition, and is not a schlorship member of the team yet? Wait wait wait, out of the kindness of his heart? I wonder if that's how Schmidt and co. convinced him to come to SBU... "Well, Jake, you know, we can't give you a scholarship yet, so we're going to have to plead to your kind-hearted side and ask you, with all of your kindness if you will play here. So if you could just pay the school almost $30k, we'd all really REALLY appreciate it." I'm sure it went more along the lines of, "Hey Jake, we want you to play for us, but we're going to need to red shirt for your first year sans scholarship, and barring any snags, you can spend the next 4 years here on a free ride. And if that's not going to work out, thanks but no thanks." Obviously he would've rather NOT paid for his first year, but will be rewarded for the next 4 years. I know SBU is a Franciscan institution, but i think sometimes it's blown WAY out of proportion.
