I know this thread has been done before, but I couldn't find it. This is what I think the starting line-up should/will be.
1- ELEBY/ OGO 2- MATTHEWS/ LEONARD/ DAVENPORT 3- HALL/ DAVENPORT/LEONARD/ CONGER/ 4- SIMMONS/ COOK 5- NICHOLSON/...... COOK? HOUSE?
I think the development of simmons and cook are key to a successful 09-10 season. I know very little about House, but I don't think he will play much of a role in the upcoming season.

Unless Simmons has exploded in size over the summer I think he would be eaten alive at the four. I would just as soon have Hall at the four. Despite the fact that he isn't the prototypical power forward due to his game style, he has a high basketball IQ and is a decent rebounder. How Cook and Leonard look going into the season will go a long way toward how the front court will shape up.

I don't know how Simmons can be pegged in as a starter. There aren't a lot of freshmen — especially those away from the game for a year — that start and make huge impacts in the A-10. It's a developmental league and St. Bonaventure is a developmental program. When Simmons proves something, I think then we can start talking about a starting position. For now, I like Hall at the four and depending on how good Leonard actually is, he or Mike Davenport at the 3.

I expect Davenport to play a big role on this years team.

Now that we have a 6'10" Freshmen that can start, I think Shmitty might have a problem with keeping so much talent happy by playing them. What type of offense and defense is coach going to run with this year? That might determine some of it. Maybe he'll run a 10-40 offense. We need DEFENSE... It will be interesting who'll be the starting five at with the game against Baron. I'll guess this:
Elleby Davenport Rosenboro Nicklonson Hall
And now coach will have the job of fine tuning the team by subbing in and out Jake, Ogy, Simmons, Conger, Cook and Leonard Lewis.
If we stay healthy then the Bonnies will do just fine.

I love the optimism surrounding Roseboro and hope he can be an impact player right away. But it's difficult to count on that. Nicholson was the exception, not the rule last season. The A-10 is a developmental league and the Bonnies are even more so a developmental program. How many freshmen played even marginal roles on the NCAA and NIT teams this decade? I can think of two -- Prato and Green. If we can get 6 pts and 5 boards a game out of Roseboro, that will be a bonus.
In my humble opinion, I expect to see Hall play a little 4 and move Andrew to the 5. And I also see Simmons and House getting ops to prove themselves in the frontcourt. Let's give Roseboro some time before etching in him at 28-30 mins a game.

As so many of us like to project starting line-ups, it is a bit early, as the "unknowns" have yet to be heard from.
At this point, I would start Eleby, Matthews, Leonard or Davenport at the 3, Hall at the 4 and Andrew.
Ogo will hopefully share the point with Eleby (like Blackburn did last year).
The unknowns: House, Roseboro, Cook at the 4 & 5. Coach has many options depending on how well they have developed. (Cook has more experience, but does he have the desire). I think that Jake & Brett will both surprise.
Simmons is supposed to be able to shoot from the outside but has the height of a 4. He is very much an unknown to me at this point. Conger is supposed to be excellent on the defensive end, he will get his time when the team needs to press, but I don't expect too much this year.
I like Davenport a lot, and he should start when we play Hall at the 4, but I would like to see how LL plays, he has the credentials to score (JC), but how rusty will he be?.
Great to speculate, and what we think is just fun. The coaching staff has some tough decisions, but I am optimistic.

While I'm a bit reserved about Roseboro myself, he has my vote to be a break out star this season. While he may not have the length and defensive ability that Andy has, he's a legit 6-foot-10 who has a reliable jump shot and can hold his own on the post as well. I've heard that he's giving Andy all he can handle in practice and from what I've seen from his high school stats he's no matador on the interior either.
Apparently the knock on him from Marquette was that he wasn't Big East ready, but I think with a deep bench to spell him and an arguably low-pressure situation here at Bonas I think he'll be turning some heads. Can't wait for that first open scrimmage, this will be a fun year.

Since the Bonnies joined the A-10 Andrew is the only freshman post player to average double digits in points. Next highest scoring post player as a freshman is Michael Lee scoring 6.6 ppg. It would be considered a solid freshman year, if Roseboro can match Lee's freshman numbers. Double digit scoring freshmen since Bonnies joined A-10. Here is the list: Tim Winn 13.3 ppg Andrew Nicholson 12.5 ppg Garland Mance 11.9 ppg Mark Jones 11.4 ppg Nii Nelson Richards 10.6 ppg Alvin Lott (A-10's 1984 rookie of the year is probably somewhere on this list, but could not find his freshman stats) Except for Andrew, all of the above players were under 6'5". grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/stbo/sports/m-baskbl/auto_pdf/0809-mg-pt7-records.pdfMy starting lineup for majority of this season. C - Andrew Nicholson PF - Jonathan Hall (hopefully Roseboro, House, Simmons or Cook develops into a starter by A-10 tournament) SF - Leonard Lewis SG - Chris Matthews PG - Ogo

Roseboro has my vote to be a break out star this season. My break out star this season is between Ogo or Lewis. I can see Lewis averaging more points, but Ogo will probably be more important with running the fast pace offense.

The starting five for this years team means little. I truly believe because of the balance you will see different starters, and guys who dont start end up playing alot based on their performance in that particular game. Roseboro will start, anyone who thinks different is only kidding themselves. Andrew, Brett, Matthews, Hall and Ogo. Matthews might start but is the perfect example of my reference to guys who might not get many minutes even though they start. If he is not hitting, he is such a liability on defense that Mark will pull him and give Davenport and Leonard a shot. With the addition of Roseboro and the steady improvement of Jake H. the 4 spot will be occupied by them and a few minutes for Cook here and there. Hall could see some time at the 4 depending on matchups, foul issues etc. Another example will probably be Eleby. He might start play 7 or 8 min, and then Ogo comes in and plays the remainder.Talking with Schmidt two things are evident: He loves Ogo and wants him to run the team. Secondly he loves Roseboro. Wanted him badly last year. As others have mentioned and I concur Simmons is interesting. Dont really know how much he will help us. He has put on some weight, but like Leonard the time off from playing might take them awhile to get things going. The good thing about this years group is it gives coach plenty of options, he can go small or go big. Playing Roseboro and Jake will allow Andrew to stay out of foul trouble, as they can now defend big in the paint. Coach has mentioned even playing Roseboro at the 5 and Andrew at the 4.

Coach will be tested this year by how well he runs his offense and then transitions into defense. It seems as if he will have a lot of talent to call off the bench. Playing the " end game " with the kids he has will be a learning curve (loses) but, one that will pay off with wins.
jmp your thoughts on Hall and Conger? Also, with the team they have including the Red Shirt and the transfer from Houston, that must be some practice squad.

room109-Hall is just what the staff claimed: a guy who doesnt do anything great but does lots of things ok. His turnovers are killers and his defense is suspect but he does score and rebound enough to get major minutes. Conger is still aways away from being a contributor but he is a hard worker, and very coachable. He doesnt look to have great range from the outside, but has a decent first step to the basket and plays hard. His strength is in the open floor as he runs the floor really well.

Picking the starting team with so many unknown factors is a challenge. As has been noted, Coach has more options & the starting 5 will not be as important as finding the right combo to take care of the ball and play defense. Based on what I am hearing here are my starters for the first several games: Andrew, Jonathan, Chris, Malcolm & Brett.
I see Ogo becoming our primary PG 7 games into the season. Andrew, Jonathan & Chris will play huge mins, with a wave of players coming off the bench (Davenport, LL, House, Simmons & Conger). I hope Cook is a contributor but will be surprised if that’s the case.
It is clear what must be improved in order for us to match or exceed last year’s 15 Ws. Last year’s 16.9 TOs per game & -2.6 Turn Over Margin must be turned around. We were dead last in the A10 in both categories. Hopefully Ogo will improve this area of our game with Hall also caring for the rock. Davenport’s increased time from last year’s under 12 mis to about 20 should improve our team D along with Brett patrolling the inside along with Andrew. Many question marks remain. Will LL & Chris correct our inability to score the trey? Will Andrew improve on taking fouls? Will LL score half the # of points he averaged in JC? Will we lead the A10 in team blocks? Will we convert better than last year’s 66% from the stripe (in spite of Chris & Blackburn’s excellent conversion rate)? It will be exciting to see the answers as the season unfolds. Can’t wait. In the interim I’ll enjoy reading the comments of observers until I get up to the Enchanted Mountain to see for myself.

We ended last season like this
Nicholson Hall Matthews Eleby Benson
Davenport(24 mins against Rich).
I would move Davenport in and lineup looks solid. I think all of the new guys will be fighting for minutes......just my opinion!
