it's nice to say it sounded ugly from the winning side! It looks like a solid foundation is being constructed... Good things are a comin...

Wish we could have gotten Andy the double double but it was even better to get our bench some work. A big step for any up and coming team is comfortably beating the bad teams. We couldn't really do it last year with Canisius but we looked good tonight. I'm going out on a limb and say that we'll sweep the BTI, even though Illinois State can be tough. Should be a great road test.

Love "ugly" when it means going on a 35-6 run, cause 19 TOs leading to 22 pts, outrebound your opponent 43 to 24, make 9 steals, 11 players score, Hall goes 2-2 from the stripe, Andy has 11 boards & 4 blocks, & Simmons grabs 8 boards in just 11 mins.

Hate to say it, but Lewis Leonard does not seem at all to be division 1 capable.

I have only seen him play 9 mins in last night's game. I certainly can't draw any conclusions from the little I saw but am very sure Schmidt would not have signed him if he was not capable of playing Div I. In the mins I saw, LL stayed in front of his man, played tight D slacking off his man to cover lanes as appropriate. On his 1-3 he went aggressive to the hole & scored decisevely. On another aggressive move to the hoop he was fouled & made both FTs. He can jump & had 3 boards. I liked what I saw in spite of him being off target on his treys. I noticed the entire bench really pulling for him especially after his down low bucket. Those were his first mins in two years.

I think Simmons, Rosie and Conger will prove to be terrific players if they get a few minutes, and its important to get those minutes now so we can count on them during A-10 play. You think about what we have in the spoh and Freshman classes, and you have to be excited for the next few years. We need another true point in this class, along with the combo guard we signed. We also need to still find a shooter...

Here's my take on Leonard for what it's worth:
I think he was recruited over, which isn't all that surprising with a rebuilding program. Though the same year, he signed before late spring signees Davenport and Hall, who are obviously playing a lot of minutes and are obviously bettter players. But Schmidt had no idea he could get those guys so late and I'm certain he wasn't exactly sure of Davenport's potential. Think that's why Leonard is the odd man out though he probably is a decent player.

What ever happened to Leonard Lewis is a good question, especially considering the following: 1. Numerous times in the OTH, JP Butler stated Schmidt is expecting offensive production from Lewis and Lewis being a key contributor. Just 2 months ago, JP wrote the following: "Another big-time scorer is exactly what St. Bonaventure needs. Schmidt thinks he’s got that guy in Leonard." (link below) 2. During open scrimmage Lewis, Conger and Eleby were the only players to be on the winning team for all 3 games. First game was a blowout and only the last game was close. Of the 3 players Lewis scored the most points. Lewis has not displayed it since the scrimmage, but I believe he is one of the better offensive players on the team. Unfortunately Lewis does not play defense with the same energy he plays offense. During the open scrimmage Schmidt stopped the scrimmages several times to reprimand Lewis about his defense. In the exhibition game against Mansfield, Lewis gave a poor defensive effort. I remember posting that with his defense it is not a surprise to see him being the last player off the bench. Another possibility is an affliction that struck Delonte Taylor. After a MVP performance in the Bonnies last Midnight Madness (2 years ago) word started to leak out that Delonte could not play disciplined basketball. Have to wonder if Lewis is having the same problems. Agree with WGT about Lewis playing better defense against Binghamton. Hopefully Lewis can turn it around, because the Bonnies can use his offensive skills. www.oleantimesherald.com/articles/2009/09/13/sports/doc4aab0b3097072938832099.txt

He will be fine. Probably off to a slow start. A few weeks ago there were people on this board who never thought D'Quan Cook would see any minutes and he is starting. Lewis will find his role just like everyone else. Geez... we have played 3 games and the naysayers are coming out of the woodwork already.

After 3 games Lewis has played only 9 minutes, which is tied with Jake for the fewest minutes played on the team. Can anyone think of a Bonnie, who started out the first 3 games as the last player on the bench and then develop into a significant contributor to the team in that season? Only player I can think of is Matt Morgan, but he was not the last player on the bench playing 23 minutes in his first 3 games of his freshman season (stats below). Matt also did not have the benefit of receiving playing time, because of a 33 point lead early in the 2nd half. Unlike Jake who has a couple seasons for development, Lewis only has 2 seasons to contribute. Without question, Lewis lack of playing time in the first 3 games is a big concern. Hopefully things turn around for Lewis, but right now there is a definite reason to be concerned. statsheet.com/mcb/players/player/st-bonaventure/33-matt-morgan/game_stats

He is probably an injury to Matthews or Davenport away from seeing significantly more minutes. My gut feeling was that Leonard would always be a 1 and done player for the Bonnies. My guess is that he departs at the end of this season and that opens up another scholarship.
