Tough loss. We were down just 2 with 1 minute left in spite of terrible shooting from beyond the arc (1-10) & from the stripe (for them) 63%. Jenkins didn't feel it today, scoring just 2 pts on 1-10 shooting & 0 - 6 treys. These Bonnies are good & almost stole one in front of a pumped crowd (5,000 +) in spite of their ice cold shooting. Of course the 17-3 second chance points sure didn't help. Walker not playing really hurt the bench depth. Sure look forward to their A10 play.

;)The Lady Bonnies will rock in the A-10, and I believe they will only get better as the season progresses. NCAA not out of the question with Crowley's team this year!!

MSU coach said #14 was a primary focus; that's why she had a tough night!

Michigan State Head Coach Suzy Merchant
On switching between man and zone defenses... They're a team that you don't want to zone very long. They have a lot of shooters that you want to get at and if you're in a 1-2-2 or a 2-3 matchup then they can really extend you and the two kids inside do a nice job in the short corner and high post so you have to defend them. We felt like what we wanted to do was get them out of a flow a little bit and disrupt what they were doing just long enough to buy some time and put a run together, which we did. They're just scary from the three point line; they shoot 46% percent from three on the season. So, I'm sure it was frustrating at times for fans because they wanted to see people help on dribble drives but that was the game plan. It was similar to the Middle Tennessee State game plan from last season where if you help into the post on the nation's leading scorer they're going to shoot threes all day. We really felt like we were going to pick our poison, we were going to let them go one on one from everywhere. We might have a first line of defense but if she gets to the rim you were on your own and your job was to make it a tough shot and not foul and then grab the rebound. As soon as you start helping, they have a very high basketball IQ and start pitching and then you start getting beat outside and inside and it can really crumble. It's hard for me as a coach defensively to be honest. All season long we've been working really hard on getting in position and working on backside help and for this game it was ok we have a one day prep and everything that you've been practicing on a dribble drive situation this season I'm going to take away from you. But that's the only way that you could play them. It's also tough to prepare your team mentally for that style. We played them once but it's tough for them to understand that this is 15 rounds of a heavyweight fight, it's not going to be a blowout situation. They don't play a style that lets you get away from them because they use shot clock, rebound and get everybody back. They do a nice job with who and what they are and a lot of credit goes to Jim Crowley, he's done great things at St. Bonaventure. We just decided to pick our poison and our kids did a great job of managing that part of the gameplan.

ttp://www.lansingstatejournal.com/article/20091222/GW0202/912220329/1023/GW Nice feature article about AD. Last year Coach got Dehaan away from the key defensively and that was the difference last night. Crowley has a good team and they play smart and tough. MSU beat us off the bench

Listening to the feed over the MSU station, the the first and second half the Bonnies had eight times to either tie the game or take the lead. Down by 2 and a bucket could've tied the game the Bonnie miss two easy shots under the basket, MSU rebounds the ball and race down the court only to pull up and hit a 3. That's a 5 point turn around and the Bonnies lost it there never to come back. They just could not make an easy basket to save their lives.
I listened to the pregame interview with the MSU Coach and she had a lot of praise and good comments about the Lady Bonnies. She feels that they are a NCAA team this year and could even sneak in and win the A10. She mentioned a couple of times that stopping " number 14 " would be their key to win the game.
Coach Crowley will now have to make the offensive changes because, I would assume, all the other teams will foucus on #14 outside and Dana Mitchell inside and down low. I would have thought that he (Coach C) would have been aware of that and went to plan B.
GO BROWN INDIANS - bring a friend ( in my case I don't have any ) to the games

Haha, the mysterious #14 is Jess Jenkins, no need to keep talking about her like she's the second shooter on the grassy knoll. I don't blame teams for keying in on her, she's about as accurate from three than most players are around the net.
I think once Chelsea Bowker learns the system more she'll be a real asset as well thanks to her ability to shoot the three as well. By no means was this a letdown, just a bump in the road that this team is more than capable of getting through.
