As a former townie- it was embarrassing to even be sitting in my living room and watching that hodge podge of a "team". I can't even imagine being a financial supporter from an alumni standpoint. It is obvious that the basketball team has "lost" the support of the area-something I believed could never happen. And it is something very hard to do-being the choices available in the area. People laughed at the "reds" and how they are lethargic- in the past. They are/were astute basketball people. They know the glory days are far behind- and even a drop in Division or movement to another league- will not bring this college back to basketball respectability. I enjoy the passion on this board- and shared the excitement generated in the early games-but the fact remains...We should walk away from the Atlantic 10 before they kick this pathetic team's effort out. We can't even carry our own jock straps- and all the praying in the world will not get it done. It was embarrassing- by association. My wife told me not to watch...but like an eight car pile-up...I couldn't turn my head.

Are you sure you are a "former townie" and not still here? Because the negative attitude you spew seems to be running rampant in these parts lately (in basketball and in local government). I for one am glad your a "former townie", as such a negative attitude does no good here or anywhere for that matter. Why even come here and post this crap? Walk away from the A-10? what good does that do? it recruits worse players than we have now, it lowers our exposure, and eventually we end up Canisius, Niagara or worse, an Alfred. But hey, it looks to me like you are afraid of challenges so why don't you go run off like a coward. I'll sit here like a true "townie" and look for ways to improve and go from there.
Thanks, a current townie

I think it's SBU, not you, that should consider itself lucky that you're not an alum.

I am not an alumus/alumna either. Yes I am a former townie. I will always remember SBU for much more than basketball. I grew up there. SBU is a gem in a region that has been in decline since World War II. So right now it is hard to watch the team lose game after game. Good things don't last forever, neither do bad things. The 1995 team came out of nowhere, there was no indication in 1994 that any improvement was taking place. The main reason was Nie Nelson Richards became a very good 3 point shooter in his senior year. Last year GW, and this year La Salle came out of nowhere as did Penn State in football. One day good times will come because SBU is not a loser in the long run. You can count on it.

Oleander-How creative a name? You must be a big supporter of the term "Bonnie". I can see how you hold on strong to the team...its the last hope in a bankrupt city. Bonas should "wish" they had the upside of the teams you toss about....hummm..maybe mention UB who we wouldn't even think about playing before. Read the writing on the wall, my friend. I am no stinkin' coward- a realistic one.
to cleve royster- I will admit to the pacer and bars- but I am sure you are exaggerating (a bit) about the Allegany (BONA) women. ;D
My friend vtsaint05-I can see your point. Thanks for weighing in the freaking subject. What a "mary".

Oleander is the name as a joke between friends. But hey im sure Beefs has some creative value to it.
No "Bonnie" is still and will aways be a horrible name for the team.
And yes i hold on strong to the team, But it is hardly the last hope for a city, that other than what you read in a paper with nothing to write, is not really bankrupt.
Ok, UB, your right i should have mentioned them, For a team that was suppose to be the Top of the MAC. They are doing very well...
Like i said, Im glad you no longer live here, Coward!

All I have to say is at least I don't live in PA. Thats far worse than living in Olean. I'd rather live in Kill Buck than PA. Maybe you went to the Farm School that is down there. We did scrimmage UB before the season started. Played two whole games against them and won one and lost one.
Walk away from the A10 because of a couple poor seasons. Let's see, thats a great idea for a COWARD. You act like Bonas can never recover from where they are now. They have before and will recover again.
With a name like beefs, I wouldn't want anybody to know who I was. Especially if I went to a Farm School in PA.

Ugh. A coward. I have been called a lot of names- that my friend- is not one of them. Anyway, my thoughts have taken on- and have spurred renewed talk about moving from the A10. Didn't say I "wanted" to do it-but it still is painful. I was there.. when the place was packed and in the town square after the Final Four. In the Rielly Center when we toasted to the NIT Victory- and defended Bona's when a Canisius Alum said Bonas would never return to those days. Now-Residing in Beautiful Bucks County (far from Killbuck - a beautiful community)- I still have the passion for the university- that may rival that of an alum. I hardly went to a Farm School- but I do know one thing- That Farm school DIII could kick this group of "young men's" behind-sorry to say. My name is a joke between friends too like my good friend "the flower"- and I have always enjoyed it and enjoy hearing it when I return to the Big O. Don't like being called a coward though. Most uncalled for. I would have liked to see more love from ceharv too...my stance has merit...but we all want to succeed in the A10 and a good coach is really what is needed here.

TOWNIE FIGHT! LIVE FROM BOWLEAN ARENA! Friday, February 10 at 7:00 pm!
In one corner, dressed in a red flannel shirt and sporting grease-stained ripped jeans, is Beefs! Hailing from Sunny Chalfont PA, Beefs is a displaced townie who drives a pacer 'round town to pick up innocent unsuspecting freshmen. He angered students, alum, and townies alike by his seemingly innocent "Thank God I'm Not alumni" thread.
And in the other corner, dressed in a yellow Redemption Wolfpack t-shirt (circa 1999) and clad in blue sweatpants, is Oleander! The man who bleeds SBU through and through will stand up for the hopes and dreams of thousands of Bonaventure faithful.
MAY THE BEST TOWNIE WIN! (Post-fight festivities will take place at Dreamers).
