My suggestions would be to send your hardearned $1,000 to the Bonaventure Fund or for class scholarship aid or to the BAF or the Warming House. This bldg is already generously endowed, and we need funds to get more students to enroll as of August 2013 or August 2014 - at least 550 to 600 frosh are needed this year. Besides that bldg will be forever known as the East German Bus Stop, wow is that thing ugly. Too bad there was not more input from our extended community, like everyone.

If you were correct that it would only cost $1k from each member of a graduating class (or approx $500,000) to renovate Plassman, it would be done in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, to completely update that building will take millions of dollars. I'm sure it is on the priority list of things that need to get done on campus. For now, the new Business School building will help eleviate space issues all around campus as it will take the business classes and faculty offices out of Murphy and Plassman and give that space to the School of Journalism and School of Arts and Science. The goal for the new School of Business building was to raise $15 million, which includes 100% of the cost of construction of the building as well as an endowment of $1 million for building support and maintenance. To date the school has raised about $14.8 million toward this goal. The sale of bricks is intended to complete the endowment of this building so that it is 100% self-funded going forward. If there are any alums and firends of Bonas who would like to give back by purchasing a brick with their name on it, or the name of a special professor or family member, it would help to put the campaign over the top. www.sbu.edu/alumniAndFriends.aspx?id=35095

I'm considering purchasing a brick; but want to know what is meant by "walkway?" Is it an entranceway leading into the building (seems kind of eerie to have students walking across (dead) people's names) or is it somewhere within the building itself? Thanks for any clarifications.

Thanks for considering buying a brick BVA. Attached below is a picture of the Business Walkway which hopefully will help show you the location of where the bricks will be placed. The purchased bricks will be part of the Business Walkway that will lead up to the building as part of a prominent space on campus. We hope you'll consider the opportunity to purchase a brick and help complete the campaign. Also, check out the progress of the building at www.facebook.com/SBUBusiness

The renovation of Father/President Thomas Plassman Hall should have been priority number one, and would have been priority number one if Sister Margaret and her company of loyalists had of even ventured out from the their second floor redoubt and asked for the input, opinion from our community. Our community includes the overall alumni base, faculty senate representatives, general faculty, staff, FoB, etc., and the many folks who deeply love this university. Instead those with different opinions were met with stubborn intransigence. How dare you have a different opinion from the second floo politburo? When Sister Margaret was finally forced to hold two public meetings on campus in the spring of 2012, just prior to our NCAA appearences, the testimony was clear, many elements of the community had very strong concerns about process of the project and the project itself. These concerns were however quickly disregarded. Instead this was an insular process guided by the chosen few (I remember the motorcycle gang from my youth), who were bound and determined to do this project regardless of what the community might say, or the suggestions they might make. Conditions in old Plassman are totally substandard (been there lately?), that fact was ignored by the second floor, and still is. Fifteen million dollars raised without one iota of a reference to a strategic plan. Restore Plassman - No; Renovate Rob/Fal - No. By the way the location of this building was completely inappropriate and remains so, as is the design, the design which is inconsistent with the Umbrian theme of the campus, but is consistent with the Stasi HQ in East Berlin...but who cares as long as we can pay homage to Caesar, all Hail Caesar.

To lighten the mood a little maybe?
I think the Bona faithful should buy bricks in memory of the playing careers of the following Sam Graham, Kendrick Hamilton, Buzz Middleton, Yankuba Camara, Jim Elenz, Tom Boney just to name a few. Please feel free to add to the list.

I'm confused. Does this mean you are not buying a brick?
