After reading JH's posts in recent days, he's tapped a subject that needs more attention. The rafters and albeit the walls on the south end of the RC are quite empty. For an institution that purports itself as an traditional Eastern power, WE'RE NOT DISPLAYING OUR GLORIOUS PAST! A few years ago, Bona sports marketing (in all of their infinite wisdom) auctioned off the banners proclaiming the exploits of past teams. That's fine, but no replacements? Instead, we minimized and shoehorned our entire postseason history onto a few banners. What a d**n shame. What ticks me off the most is that years 1970 and 1977 should memorialized in Bona sports pantheon forever. Long live those teams and their memories. Two special teams should have large banners, similar to LaSalle. At the Tom Gola Arena in Philly, LaSalle has hung a National Championship banner to commemorate their shining moment...and Bonas? We need to bring back ALL the NCAA yearly banners and update them in 21st Century language like 1st round, Sweet Sixteen, East Region champions, FINAL FOUR. As for the NIT, we've made runs in that tourney when it was the national championship and ran circles around the NCAAs. We've been asleep at the wheel too, too long. As for the players, we need to honor the NIT champs (30 years is approaching), retiring the jersey's of Essie Hollis and Jim Baron (also for coaching). Greg Sanders, Earl Belcher and Glenn Hagan should be next. Let's start acting like a big-time program and quit minimizing our accomplishments. Make a stand, band together and implore the school to make the RC and imposing place again. We need opponents and potential recruits looking at the walls and rafters to think twice and realize...THIS IS BONA TERRITORY! Peace and love and please visit me at the Heart. -- Thomas Merton.
