Yes, it's a shame that there are so many needy earthworms and beetles that must be attended to before us mere mortals.
Maybe some day, guys.

the fact that Watson is actively seeking yet another job speaks very loudly to the turmoil which is swirling around the top level of the "leadership" at dear old SBU....we are headed for a bumpy ride What is going on?

SBU has budget concerns. Some salaries have been frozen for faculty and staff. I have not spoken to SW, but it might be about his pay or perhaps frustration with what he is able to pay assistant ADs and staff. Steve has done a wonderful job at SBU. I hope he stays. But if not, I wish him nothing but the best.

Unfortunately - SBU isn't a "destination" for ambitious AD's and coaches - all too often it's a stepping off point during their journey to the destination spot - SBU isn't alone - many schools "enjoy" that distinction.
But North Dakota State University?

Steve Watson has done a good job; hiring Schmidt, extending Crowley, gaining donors for facilities. he isn't the jerk former AD's were. But that being said, if he doesn't want to be here, then good riddance, and take Questa with you please.

Looking at the resumes, I would think he would be their #2 choice

A real shame if we lose Steve. he has been outstanding and deserves better than he has been getting here at Dear Ol' SBU. If changes are made within the "decision-making team", one or two in particular, his job and therefore overall student recruitment to the University might be a bit easier. We need to recognize what we have that other small Privates DON'T have... successful DI programs and good academics, together. Not to be a chauvinist, but perhaps we need a dose of testoserone in Hopkins! Sorry ladies, but i think we may have need for a little "reverse balance'!

In answer to Az63, no he is not. We urgently need to retain Steve Watson as AD, he has been a tremendously positive force in the department, rebuilding an outfit that was a disaster area when he arrived, after the Gothard Lane debacle. He needs to be rewarded with an improved compensation package, and quickly too. But that is a decision which our sainted CEO needs to make or take the heat when he leaves for better pastures. He will not be easy to replace. Bottom line is get it done.

I am 100% in agreement, firstdev, and anybody paying attention would also concur! The man has to be FRUSTRATED. So much so, North Dakota is looking good! Haven't we made enough mistakes in re. the whole "retention" thing? Just my humble opinion, here.

Watson has been a god send for SBU and a perfect ambassador for the school and the athletics dept. If his "superiors" cant see that, they should be jettisoned asap.

Why does everybody seem to speak in code. What exactly is administration doing wrong?

Why does everybody seem to speak in code. What exactly is administration doing wrong? I'm not sure "everybody" is the right word here, bbb. I think it's more like "one person and his alter-egos". To answer your question, though, I'm not sure. But, it seems as if you need to be wearing a tinfoil hat to arrive at the truth.
