Grew up in Queens as a Brooklyn Dodgers fan & hated (still don't like) the Yankee$ because they always beat my Bums in the Series. It was great being a kid when there were 3 MLB teams in town - caught lots of games in each park - each one very unique. Got back to the Polo Grounds when the Mets played there in their first season - it had gotten really nasty by then. In grade school the nun who was principal always had the Series on the loudspeaker which was pretty cool. During the last game of the '55 Series I got home from school expecting my mom to be watching the game but not so - she was up in Bowne Park saying her rosary because she couldn't deal with the tension. Her prayers did the trick as the beloved Bums won their first Series. Willie, Mickey & The Duke - great players, great teams, great times. Best of all, they played the Series in daylight back in the day. Hated the Dodgers after they moved (still don't like 'em); became a Mets fan and went to all the home games in the '69 Playoffs & Series - fun stuff.

Back then the Knicks vacated the old Garden when Ringling Bros. Circus came to town. They played their games in the 69th Regiment Armory & it was pretty easy to sneak in.
We were also able to sneak into the visiting locker room after Ranger games and grab broken sticks. BTW, we got into the game for $1 and had to sit in the 3rd tier in "obstructed view" seats. Gave the usher another $1 and were able to move down a few rows into "full view" seats.
It was just a great time to be a kid in NYC
Sorry to change from baseball thread; my life has always had a "flight of ideas" theme!!

Remember, according to Marty McFly...in 2015, the World Series Champions are going to be the Chicago Cubs

Talking about the circus.....I remember in the late 40s when the circus animals were walked to the Garden down 2nd avenue from 125th street right past the building that I lived (2nd and E 77th)....and from my window would pass the elephants/giraffess and all the circus equipment. Doesn't happen anymore, but what a thrill seeing those animals. Thanks AZ for bringing back those memories.
