All wins are good wins. Every team in D1 has talent.
Texas Southern from the SWAC is ranked 276 (Sagarin) and just knocked off #25 Michigan State in East Lansing.

Hopefully today's struggle will put an end to people thinking we can just show up and beat another D1 team as if the other team is just gonna lay down, especially on the road. In particular the blogger who posts on this board and previewed the game in a ridiculous, demeaning fashion to the opposition. Any D1 team should be respected. Haven't we learned that lesson in recent years? It is happening every weekend to far bigger and better programs than ours. A 1-8 team beat Mich St at Mich St today. I shuttered after reading his preview and thankfully we got out of town with a W. Maryland Eastern Shore will pose a challenge at home on Monday. And, our next road game is at Delaware, an NCAA tourney team from last year that won 25 games but is currently 0-9 and going through difficult times. Let's hope any previews and predictions for that game realize Delaware will be coming to play. They are not going 0-25.

Two items about Binghamton game that have not been mentioned: 1. Jordan Tyson was not with the team. 2. Coach Schmidt was in a boot on right foot. Anyone have any explanation for Coach's injury? I heard a rumor at the game, but want to stick to known facts.

I'm thankful to all the time Ian commits to his site (research of stats, in depth articles and etc). I for one enjoy and look forward to what Ian has to say. I'm thankful for his honest and frank style. If you want the typical "coach speak" do not visit his site.

Hey Chuck I was actually commenting on his blog previewing the game, not his comments after the 18 point win. I think Ian does a good job. I have his blog E-Mailed to me. I follow Ian on Twitter. Very entertaining, especially his pokes at Mike Francesa. I didn't like his pre-game thoughts on Binghamton. Sorry. I don't think our program has reached the heights where we can ridicule other D1 programs. Not yet anyways. I'm a karma guy. Btw, I'll continue to read his stuff, whether you like it or not.

Bub I apologize for my last sentence as it was uncalled for and not needed. I just think it is unfortunate that Ian receives so much criticism (spelling mistake, use of humor and now this) for all the work he does on his blog.

Zones are going be a problem all year with this team. We need someone else besides Posely and Jay Adams to become a threat beyond the 3pt arc. Agreed Bonnies really struggle with zones. I bet everyone would be surprised to know the Bonnies are currently the 3rd best 3 point shooting team in the A-10 by making 36.6% of their shots behind the arc. In fact so far it is Schmidt's 2nd best 3 point shooting team. Only the 2012-2013 team shot better and this was due mostly to Eric Mosley's incredible stroke during his senior year. Of course Bonnies impressive shooting can be credited to basically just 2 players (Jay and Marcus) especially Jay who is 4th in the A-10 making 47.7% of his 3s. Do Bonnies have a 3rd option? Andell and Jalen are the next best by making a third of their 3s, but we all know Jalen is not an option with him sitting at the end of the bench. This leaves just Andell who has made only 9 threes. We can hope he takes more, but I prefer him not trying to match Marcus 70 3 point attempts. I guess I'm saying things are good the way it is. statsheet.com/mcb/beyondthearc/teams/st-bonaventurewww.atlantic10.com//ViewContent.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=31600&CONTENT_ID=1025874statsheet.com/mcb/teams/st-bonaventure/players

It wouldn't be fun if we all agreed. As long as it's intelligent debate like this board is most of the time. Merry Christmas!

Beating Binghamton actually hurt the Bonnies current RPI, which now puts us 133rd vs. 109th prior to the game. This is due to the fact that the Bearcats are winless against a weak schedule of Division I opponents. Obviously, the result would have been even worse had we lost--and such upsets have happened often in the past few weeks. The game was a good opportunity for alumni from Syracuse, Binghamton, and Scranton-Wilkes Barre to see the team and it gives the coaching staff another opportunity to see that we need to figure out how to improve our inside offense. Kenpom's model uses far more statistical input than RPI and the Binghamton win resulted in a move up in his rankings to 94th, which leaves us in eighth position in the A10. We're now very close on the heels of 7th-ranked UMass, which Kenpom ranks 90th in Division I. Watching the Bonnies in action can be stressful as their 2-point field goal percentage of 44.7 ranks 259th in the country. (The national average= 47.6%). However, it's even more frustrating for the opposition, whose 2-pointers go in only 39.7% of the time. That puts the Bonnies 12th in the country in 2-point defense. It can be rather intimidating taking shots close in against this team. May it continue and may our own shots start dropping at a higher rate!

I love Youssou's hustle and defense and rebounding - but offensively the problem with Youssou scoring isolated inside is not the entry passes as much as he simply has no reliable go to move and Dion Wright will give you all the effort and inside scrap/compliment game but he is not a valid primary option to isolate and throw down low to for him. Our only true consistent offense is Posley or Jay Adams shooting outside and the zones will continue to extend further and further as long as no down low offense makes them pay the price for extending. We missed on 3 juco power forward recruits last year - James Kelly to Miami, Darius Carter went to Wichita St and Kevin Thomas incredibly went to Troy over the A10 - any one of those 3 would have provided the down low play we could use now to provide our shooters room outside. Yes the Jimmys n Joe's matter big time.

Good 3 point shooting from just beyond the line is not always going to break a zone, if only one or two guys are doing it. As others here have pointed out, you need more then 2 - more like 3 or maybe 4 to force a change. But if someone can successfully crank up good really long-range shots - another 3 feet or so beyond the arc, (see Matty Wright) that can force a team out of a zone pretty quick. That's why I'd like to see both a true 5 and a long-range bomber to fill out the 2 still-open slots in the recruiting class now being filled - Hey, it's Christmas week and I can wish, can't I?

This percentage is helped greatly by Jay Adams who is shooting very well from outside the arc. Very surprising to see Syracuse in 345th place - DEAD LAST in D-1.

Great stuff from JH and Class 70. Big thanks to Class 70 for sharing great information from Pomeroy. I agree with JH with the above, but last year we all saw Youssou develop a post game, which included an effective baby hook. The question has to be, why haven't we seen a post game from Youssou so far this season. Yesterday there were times Youssou received a pass in the high post and he wasn't even guarded. Without knowing he was unguarded he quickly passed it out to the perimeter. I'm hoping the reason why Youssou hasn't provided a post game is defenses have been focusing on him. Hopefully Youssou's post game returns when defenses extend their defense to shut down Marcus and Jay.
