He was the former Siena signee that was released from his NLI. Baron will have an excellent team next year.

Paul Kenyon of the Providence Journal today reported that Darrell Harris, a six foot 10, 210# forward from Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland has chosen to attend URI this fall. Harris was most recently being recruited by Cincinatti and Southern Miss (both of which he had just visited). Harris had originally signed a letter of intent to attend Siena College. He however asked for and was granted his release after Siena fired its head coach, former Jim Baron assistant Rob Lanier.
Harris averaged 26 points and 14 rebounds helping to lead Cuyahoga to a 4th place finish in the JUCO Division II Championships. He was also a first team All-American in the division.
Harris cannot sign a letter of intent because he had already done so at Siena. He however has filed forms to enroll at URI and plans to arrive May 23rd to start the summer session. He is expected to join the team in the Fall and have two years of eligibility.
While the news on Harris was big for the Rams basketball team, even more important news for the school was announced a day earlier. URI President Robert Carothers announced a very badly needed 120 million dollar project to upgrade facilities associated with residential life on the 1750 acre (only 700 of which are developed) main campus in Kingston. The project allots 68 million for construction of three new residence halls which will house 800 students, 27 million for renovations to seven existing dorms, 22 million for a new dining facility, and 3 million for 1,500 additional parking spaces. More than 800 of the new parking spaces will be added to the lot across the street from the Ryan Center. The project is part of a much bigger long term plan to increase total enrollment (now at approximately 12,000 full time undergraduate students) and encourage a larger percentage of students to live on campus.
