tom your regular season is who you are - thats why I list it. Winning a game not expected to in the A10 tourney does not make or define your season - we all wish it did. Looking at it from your viewpoint you must be very confused why we were not even considered for an NCAA or NIT bid in any of those years - after all we made it to the semifinals of a 6 bid conference.
Raise your expectations -

most St Joe's fans want Martelli drawn and quartered! actually they have a fire Martelli thread over there. Schmidt gets much admiration over on the A10 board!

Defined by regular season jh? Tell that to Murray State this year...and in 2012, the Bonnies get an NCAA bid without winning the title? I have high expectations, but I understand patience as well...we are growing and getting better year by year, regardless of our record...or would you rather have GREAT teams every year and end up like Syracuse on probation, or UNC under investigation again...one decent big man, with what is coming in this year and I GUARANTEE WE DANCE NEXT YEAR...

Earlier today I was looking for the thread on the A10 Board from earlier this year about rating the A10 caoches (haven't found it yet)......but Schmidt gets more complements, respect from them than he gets on this Board.

Tom we are close and I want that big man too. You do realize we almost had 6'7 F Darius Carter who played on tv for Wichita State last night - they went on their crazy Final 4 run that year and scooped him away from us - he was an Akron native. If we landed him we would have been dancing last year and this year - our fall back was 6'8 Kevin Thomas a juco with Toronto roots who took his talents to Troy rather than St Bonas - likely same scenario of back to back NCAA - he averaged near 10pts/10 rebs and passed the ball well. We missed on both.... I never comment on Schmidt's x's/o's the kids play hard defense for him and he smartly gets kids with an edge who are will to rebound. But yes he can recruit better - misses like indicated above are the difference between dancing and wanting

JH it seems to me like you judge Schmidt's success predominantly on recruiting. That's fine. I judge his success on results and place a much higher emphasis on X's and O's than you do.
Again, I use Jalen Adams as an example. It doesn't matter who you recruit or what their HS rating is, it takes a significant amount of coaching to get your team - whether they're comprised of 2-stars or 4-stars - to play at high level within the conference. There's no arguing that Schmidt has elevated our competitiveness and level of play within the A-10. Can he do more? Sure. But he's SURELY done more than the likes of Giannini or Kellogg given his resources here at SBU.

But he's SURELY done more than the likes of Giannini ... Not so sure about that localfan - Giannini & Schmidt are both just at .500 since they entered A-10. Giannini, with 3 extra years has been to 1 NIT and an NCAA Sweet 16. Giannini also holds the edge in head to head meetings with Schmidt 7 -5. Yes, he's in Philly but LaSalle has to take sloppy 4ths or 5ths in the Big 5. The Sweet 16 appearance is why I rated Giannini one spot ahead of Schmidt.
